32nd Season of PebbleCreek Softball Winding Down

The 32nd season of the PebbleCreek Senior Softball Association (PCSSA) will finish on Saturday, April 4. That’s not the end of the drama. Beginning on April 6, playoffs will begin to determine the league championships for each league (American, Central and National).

From its humble beginnings in 1995 with just two teams, today there are 23 teams and 253 players plus numerous volunteers. To accommodate this growth and the number of games played, the Field of Dreams is utilized from Monday to Saturday.

The umpires who call balls and strikes as well as “safe” or “out” are also the men and women who play this game. There is a rumor that some of the managers bring a fat wallet and have a lengthy conversation with the umpires before their game. A smart manager, however, should never question an umpire’s calltheir eyesight maybe, but not the call.

Next come the public address announcers and their announcing of the players name as they come to bat. It’s kind of interesting to hear a player’s name announced along with a superlative, some of which are pretty creative!

The PCSSA is not just 300 players, managers, coaches, and volunteers, it is also a family. Family, as defined in the dictionary, is a group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation: Fellowship.

This season also saw quite a few family members experience injuries and health issues. These individuals are not only players, teammates, and friends but they are also part of the PCSSA family that also feels their pain.

For those of you who have been to the Field of Dreams on a Saturday to take in a game or two you may have encountered some of our sponsors and their displays. Our sponsors are small businesses that offer a variety of services. Here are a few photos of some of our sponsors.
