Virtual “Nights At The Renaissance Theater” Continue

Laurie Farquhar

We may be in the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic, but in the words of Irving Berlin, “Let’s go on with the show!” That is just what your friends and neighbors in the resident performing arts groups Showtime and PC Players are doing! Since launching their “Virtual Nights at the Renaissance Theater” webinars via Zoom in November, they have shared video recordings of seven of their most popular shows from the past. Response from the many viewers has convinced them to extend these virtual airings through February.

Every other Friday evening, you can log into their free Zoom webinars from the comfort of your living room and enjoy all the great music, dancing, and comedy that you have come to expect from ShowTime and PC Players.

Here is the line-up of videos to be shown during January and February.

Friday, Jan. 15: “The Dixie Swim Club” How love and friendship (and the occasional martini) help five Southern women survive and thrive through life’s toughest lessons over the decades.

Friday, Jan. 29: “Celebrating Ed Sullivan Show” Remember when Sunday evenings meant the whole family gathered around the black and white television console to watch the Ed Sullivan Show? Relive that magical hour of entertainment, including The Beatles’ first TV appearance in the United States.

Friday, Feb. 12: “Lend Me a Tenor” A madcap comedy of mistaken identities when an internationally renown and fiery-tempered Italian singer arrives in Cleveland, Ohio to make his debut with the local opera and promptly goes missing.

Friday, Feb. 26: “Gypsy” An American musical about the dreams and efforts of one powerhouse of a woman to get her two daughters into show business… even if eventually it is to strip.

The “curtain” goes up at 7 p.m., but log in at 6:45 p.m. and join the “Backstage Talk” pre-show. This is when a few of the crew and cast members of that evening’s production share some of the funnier moments backstage.

A link for each webinar will be available in Monday’s PebbleNews and on the HOA website www.pebblecreekhoa.org. Log in and click on Announcements. Scroll down to Club News. You’ll find the bulletin and the webinar link. On the night of the show, double click that link. You’ll be asked to enter your name and email address, and then you’re in. If you arrive prior to the 6:45 start time, a message will appear informing you to wait. It’s just that easy! There is no need to download an app. Just click the link.

The webinar link will also be provided in messages on the PebbleCreek E-Group on the Sunday and Wednesday of the week of the showing.

You know how much you enjoy going to the Renaissance Theater with your friends, but since that’s not possible right now, let the theater come to you. If you encourage your friends to log in as well, then you can “chat” with each other during the show using the webinar’s chat feature. It will feel like old times!
