It was a day of bonding as members from the West Valley Shalom Clubs met on the 4th of November. Titled, “Friendship Picnic,” the day had all these attributes. People conversed, played games, ate and had a good time. Thank you to Joan Grube, Florence Langford and Bobbie Harris for orchestrating this event.

Our general meetings are having a more distinct flair to them. Yes, we still cover the usual agenda. But we are now trying to add a topic of interest to whet your intellectual appetite. Or just make things fun! We welcomed Rabbi Jesse Charyn to our October meeting. He provided an entertaining talk titled, “The Jewish Deli Experience.” Talk about fun, historical information concerning deli food. Who knew?

November 18 is our next general meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the Chianti Room. Bobbie Harris will present a Liar’s Club activity. It will be based on fact or fiction about members’ personality. Anyone planning on attending the meeting should send Bobbie a little-known fact about his or herself no later than November 10. Please send to [email protected]. Sounds intriguing!

The annual Chanukah Party will be our next big celebration. The lighting of the candles and saying the appropriate blessings will begin at sundown at Eagle’s Nest Ballroom on December 2. This will be followed by delicious food, including the traditional latkes, and entertainment. We look forward to this event planned by Ricki and Howard Isador.

*An additional candle will be lit on both menorahs at Tuscany and Eagle’s Nest throughout the week of Chanukah.

Steve Shaffer will lead a movie discussion group on Friday, November 9. The discussion will be based on a specific movie theatre experience at Harkins or an evaluation of movies from the summer.
