National Stress Awareness Day November 7

Did you know that when you’re stressed your immune system doesn’t work as well as it should? Stress has been shown to raise blood pressure, irritability and even affect how you sleep!

This November 7 is National Stress Awareness Day. Here are some great tips to stress less and keep healthy, especially during the upcoming flu season!

Get moving: Exercise is a great way to lower stress. Even something as simple as a walk can help release endorphins to keep you feeling good throughout the day.

Meditation: Meditation is the practice of being mindful and present that is gaining increasing popularity as a stress reducing activity. Meditation has been proven to control stress, decrease anxiety and increase both relaxation ability and heart health in as little as ten minutes a day!

Write it down: Keeping a journal has been proven to keep stress low and mental clarity high.

Stop and smell the roses: Certain scents are actually incredibly effective in lowering stress levels. Some scents shown to decrease stress and increase relaxation are lavender, bergamot, rose, chamomile and sandalwood.

Be creative: Creativity comes in many forms and it turns out it is perfect for when you’re stressed. Studies have shown that individuals who get creative when they are feeling stressed-out can help reduce those feelings by up to 75%.

Have a healthy snack: When we give our body plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, it gets the nutrients it needs to keep stress away (like vitamin C, a stress fighting antioxidant). Herbal remedies like savage oil are also brilliant for reducing symptoms.

Socialize: Spending time with friends, family and loved ones provides the connection we need to feel supported and less stressed.

Don’t let stress slow you down this fall. Remember these few simple things to help stay happy and healthy!
