What is Alzheimer’s staging and why should I care?

Rayma Scalzo

On January 20, our Alzheimer’s/Dementia Discussion Group will have a very special speaker, Kerri Lopez, who has just completed her Engagement Certification Course with dementia care and education specialist Teepa Snow. She will address the stages of Alzheimer’s and the reason one should know about them.

Kerri has spent the past several years helping families understand cognitive impairment and the benefits for those dealing with the disease to cognitive placement. She will explore with us three main questions:

1. Why Cognitive Placement? 2. What can I do about those behaviors? 3. When is it time to place my loved one?

After retiring from her previous career in the travel industry, she decided it was time to do something that made a difference in the lives of others, Kerri Lopez found her passion in the senior living field serving individuals and families effected by memory impairment. Kerri’s motto is “While Alzheimer’s and the other dementias are horrific diseases, the journey does not have to be!” She loves walking this journey with families and finding joy in today.

We may be able to provide free respite care for those having Alzheimer’s/Dementia disease. This allows the caregiver the opportunity and peace of mind to attend the discussion group meeting. If you let us know, we will try to arrange for someone to come to your home during the two hour meeting. For this assistance, we do ask that you RSVP by Wednesday, January 17.

Monthly Breakfast

The caregivers meet for breakfast on the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. This gives them an opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level. Knowing others who are going through the same journey is very beneficial.

Please note: Our meetings are for Alzheimer’s Dementia caregivers only. For the location, time of the meeting or to RSVP for respite care, please contact Rayma at 623-935-1819 or send an email to [email protected].
