Sweltering July heat, very early tee times, and closed courses were not enough to stop PebbleCreek Men’s Nine-Hole Golf Association (PCM9GA) members from attending July’s offering of “Summer Citizens” events during the month.

To celebrate Independence Day, a Red, White, and Blue Tournament was held on July 6 at Tuscany Falls East with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Thirteen teams competed in a scramble format, with teams rotating through the red, then white, then blue tees over the nine-hole course.

Top honors went to the team of Fred Schmidt, Doug Wainwright, Peter Herman, and Erv Stein with a net score of 8 under par. The tie breaker formula sorted the crowded field at seven under par and left second place to Tom Booth, Bill Davis, David Robertson, and Joe Belonax.

The “Summer Citizens” Ryder Cup was held on July 20 at Tuscany Falls East. The 52-man field was divided into East and West Teams, with each group consisting of two members of each team. The Ryder Cup format consisted of playing holes 1 through 3 as Alternate Shot, with the next three as a Scramble, and the final three as Best Ball.

The West Team won the Alternate Shot and Scramble formats, while the East Team’s score of 21 topped the West’s score of 18 on Best Ball. Overall, the West Team prevailed, winning five matches to the East Team’s four match wins. The highest team score of 8.5 total points was recorded by William Wagner and Donald Burrows of the West Team.

There was a rumor circulating that the PCM9GA’s Director of Golf Operations Bill Lansing actually bought a round. This rumor could not be confirmed by press time, however.
