The West Coast Swing Dance Club began its 2024–25 dance season with a new time and structure. It has been received enthusiastically by both returning members and 24 new members who are completely new to West Coast Swing (WCS).
The new format the club now offers is a block of four weekly lessons followed by a review class and an open practice dance session to help our dancers feel comfortable getting out on the dance floor.
The next session will begin on Jan. 16. Beyond the Basics Classes for returning members will be held on Thursdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and Beginner Lessons for new members with no WCS experience from 7 to 7:45 p.m., in the Tuscany Falls Fitness Center, Studio 1 (please use the entrance on the left side of the building).
A block of lessons is $20 for new members or members who haven’t paid their 2025 dues. This includes a $10 membership fee. Continuing members, who started in November, only need to pay $10 for the next set of lessons. The same fee structure will apply to each subsequent lesson block.
West Coast Swing is a dance that originated in the 1940s and 1950s responding to the need for new dance forms to adapt to changing music styles of the era. It is characterized by an extension and contraction connection between the partners and a syncopation in the rhythm. The dance has evolved over the years and a variety of music can be used for WCS, which allows for many variations from the basic steps.
We are a small friendly group of people who like to dance and learn new steps. Come join us in January to see what West Coast Swing is all about.
