Alisa Moore
More than 100 democrats gathered on Oct. 6 for a hybrid meeting, a few on Zoom and the vast majority in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom, for the PebbleCreek Democratic Club’s first in-person meeting since March 2020. President John Moore welcomed and introduced many new members who have joined the club since we last met, and they expressed excitement to be joining the crowd and having the chance to meet everyone! Three city council candidates were introduced and told the attendees about their commitment to the growth and success of the city of Goodyear.
The evening’s speaker was Marco Lopez, former mayor of Nogales, Ariz., chief of staff for customs and border protection under President Obama, and one of three declared Democratic candidates for governor of Arizona. After a brief introduction and a few minutes speaking to the group, he opened the floor to questions, discussing topics from education to immigration reform to water issues.
The PebbleCreek Democratic Club will be hearing from all three candidates before the end of the year. Aaron Lieberman, former state representative and candidate for governor, was the scheduled speaker for the Oct. 15 Welcome Back Luncheon, and the club will host secretary of state and candidate for governor Katie Hobbs at the Nov. 3 meeting. The meeting is open to all and will be a hybrid meeting as well. The social hour starts at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 7 p.m.
In addition to meeting the gubernatorial candidates, the club has numerous upcoming social activities, including the Winter Wonderland Dinner Dance on Dec. 5, trips, concerts, theatre outings, luncheons, breakfasts, book club meetings, and game nights. The club continues to support the Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank through food, money, and clothing contributions, and the Maricopa County Jail system through contributions of paperback books, CDs, puzzles, and DVDs.
