Jan. 15 was a spectacular day for tennis when the PebbleCreek Tennis Club hosted the Welcome 2022 Round Robin and Tennis Social. Sixty-four club members vied for the chance to win gift cards and the coveted used game balls. Afterwards, the players and their guests reclined at tables for a tasty and filling chili chicken made by our social director, Joan Patchin, accompanied by fresh-from-the-oven, moist cornbread baked by Leslie Carlson. Following the lunch, the group was treated to unbelievably delicious homemade pastries by Siegfried Mueller.
The round robin started at 1:30 p.m., with a perfect temperature for our Valley winters. The breeze was light and the sun slightly diffused for optimal playing. With such a perfect day, the players’ comments were about how much fun they had, which was evident by the bright, sparkling smiles on the competitors’ faces. One player even commented that they play tennis because it brings on the smiles. Our coordinator, Aquine Jackson, formed five groups of various playing levels to compete for best female and male in each group. The winners were announced at the luncheon.
Winners in each group:
Group 1: Lorinne Banister and a tie for the men: Eric Smith and Rick Camozzi
Group 2: Vicki Shaner and Curtis Patchin
Group 3: Three female winners: Sharon Connors, Rachel Hopps, and Barbie Heck; Michael Jordan for the men
Group 4: Jill Santy and Fred Barlow
Group 5: Two first-time winners: Rinda Romania and Jeff Gillen
Congratulations to all the winners.
The club board wishes to say a very big thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make this a big success, especially Leslie Carlson and Siegfried Mueller. It takes many hands to make light work, and our club members are up to the task every time. Thank you!
