The Life and Achievements of Fred

Fred Cochrane, affectionately known as the “Mayor” of Mulberry, was celebrated with a surprise luncheon for his 85th birthday at the Westwind Tavern. Born in Charlotte, N.C., Fred attended Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, D.C., and began his career at Sears Roebuck in 1961. He rose through the ranks to become a controller and later an accounting center manager in Moorestown, N.J. In 1991, Fred moved to Illinois, traveling extensively as an auditor until his retirement from Sears in 1993. He briefly worked for Circuit City before returning to Sears as a project manager, retiring for good in 1999.

Fred lived in various states, including Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, and Virginia, before settling in PebbleCreek in 2001. His family includes an adopted son, two granddaughters, four great-granddaughters, and three great-grandsons.

Fred’s volunteer work is extensive. He served as an official scorekeeper for the Arizona Rookie League for 14 years and scored for LPGA and PGA tournaments. He continues to volunteer for the American Junior Golf Association, The Renaissance Theater, The Church at Litchfield Park, St. Mary’s Food Bank, and the HCSS, supporting reading and celebratory events in schools.

Fred’s life is a testament to dedication, service, and a profound commitment to his professional and personal communities.
