On Friday, October 9 the Water Fitness participants in Sue White’s class wore hats representing some of their favorite NFL, baseball teams and various other teams. In addition to some of their routine exercises that day, they also enjoyed the day doing team sports with weights and noodles.
The class is held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Tuscany Falls outside pool at 10:00 a.m. (please note: the month of November the class will be held at the Eagle’s Nest Pool due to the Tuscany Falls Pool closure).
Water Fitness classes are a great exercise providing cardio-respiratory benefits and less impact on joints because of the properties of the water. You will find an increase in range of motion, improving overall flexibility as the body is 10 times lighter in the water. Water provides 12 times more resistance to movements in all directions. This increases strength, tone and balance. Water exercise burns seven calories per minute with 75% of those calories coming from fat. An average person will burn 450-700 calories in a one hour class.
The class is one hour long and is set up in five segments; a warm-up, tAQUATa’s (see following for explanation), strength work with water weights, strength work and isometric movement with aqua bars and a cool-down and relaxation. tAQUAtas are intervals or HITT training. We do one movement right times for 20 seconds in four minutes with 10 seconds of rest between each movement. We do three tAQUAtas in this class. The class targets on working with all the major muscle groups to improve agility, balance and coordination. The class is all set to music.
We suggest you wear a hat and sunscreen, bring water and wear water shoes.
Come on and join the fun; we look forward to meeting you! You may make a new friend, too!
