Unit Happenings – October 2024

Unit 20 Ladies’ Lunch

Peggy Pase

The ladies of unit 20 met for lunch at PF Changs on Sept. 10. We enjoyed yummy lunch specials and visiting with our neighbors. Thanks to Norma Klinger for hosting. Looking forward to our next gathering in October!

Summer Bunco for Unit 44

Jean Harris

Will they or won’t they have enough people to play Bunco on Aug. 22? The answer was yes, barely! Playing with a ghost player for the first bit, eventually eight ladies gathered at the home of Unit 44’s Debbie Baron to enjoy her husband Ron’s delicious homemade desserts and play the game. The evening was a reminder of the best of PebbleCreek life: friendship and fun. Left to right are Deborah Crabtree, Debbie Baron, friend-of-Unit 44 Jane Barnhardt, Diane Russo, Jean Merkel, and Carol Adkins. Not pictured: Gwen DeBernardi and Jean Harris.

Unit 44 Men Visit Topgolf for Lunch

Dan Harris

The Unit 44 men were hoping for a big turnout for their final monthly lunch of the summer before reverting to monthly breakfasts in October. To make it memorable, they chose the perfect venue: Topgolf! But alas, the Arizona heat had other plans (a toasty 107 degrees at noon), turning their day into a surprise audition for the next season of “Survivor: Desert Edition.” In the end, only four brave souls showed up, establishing a record low turnout—surely one for the history books! Eating indoors from left to right, the fearless foursome: Dan Harris (photographer), Larry Weber, Ken Russo, and Jim Miller. Despite the small crowd, the conversations about Unit 44 and PebbleCreek happenings kept things lively. Who needs a crowd when you’ve got great company and plenty of shade?

Six ladies did a jig, while meeting up at The Vig, at Park West … lunch was fun, and when they were done, a little shopping fest! Laughs and cheer, Unit 44 has it all year, our neighbors are the best!

The men of the Unit 58 breakfast group came together again on Aug. 22. This time it was staying on the home front, dining at Eagle’s Nest restaurant. In all we had nine in attendance, having two late cancellations. Our attendance has been strong, especially considering the hot weather and the number of residents living in distant (and cooler) locations during the summer.

We continue to meet monthly whether 2 or 22 choose to attend.

Unit 62A Patriotism

Toni Erickson

Every year, Unit 62A proudly displays flags in our yards to honor the spirit of patriotism that defines our nation. From Memorial Day to Veterans Day, these symbols of freedom serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made, the liberties enjoyed, and the labor that has built our country. As we mark Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Veterans Day, we celebrate the enduring values that unite us as Americans.

Originally called Decoration Day, from the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags, Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country.

Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

Observed each year on the first Monday of September, Labor Day is at heart a celebration of the hard-won achievements of America’s labor movement and a recognition of what workers have contributed to the nation’s prosperity.

Veterans Day is a significant observance celebrated to honor all those who served in the United States Armed Forces and thank them for their service. Veterans Day is also a reminder of the sacrifices military members make and an opportunity to acknowledge the courage and dedication of their service.

Unit 62A Enjoys a Staycation at Talking Stick Resort in East Scottsdale

Toni Erickson

Unit 62A recently had a fantastic staycation at Talking Stick Resort in East Scottsdale (Aug. 7-9), where they enjoyed a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. The group kicked off their getaway with lots of choices from some friendly competition at Topgolf, followed by lounging by the pool, and a few thrilling hours at the casino. The group also had fun playing 3-D glow-in-the-dark mini golf, adding a unique twist to their staycation.

Dining was another highlight of the trip, with the group savoring delicious meals at both Talking Stick Resort and Crust Simply Italian in Scottsdale. The combination of great food, fun activities, and quality time together made this staycation a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Those attending from left to right around the table were: Jody McCrickard, Judy Meservey, Sheryl and Maynard Lipp, Vic and Marilyn Coates, Bruce and Lynn Banks, Tim and Dale Scanlon, and John McCrickard.
