Unit 8 Ladies’ Luncheon
Alisa Moore
Welcome to our local Irish Pub, better known as the Irish Wolfhound, which we collectively traveled to Surprise to enjoy! Favorite well-known entrees and new repasts to experiment with, great service, and the chance to welcome back those Unit 8 residents who were traveling over the summer made this a luncheon to remember! Any residents of Unit 8 who are interested in joining us, please contact Jane Holdcroft at jkh2125@aol.com. Our November and December sign-ups are ready to go! Looking forward to seeing everyone at Hide Tide (November) and at Roman’s (December Holiday party). Have a great fall!
Unit 20 Ladies’ Lunch
Peggy Pase
The ladies of Unit 20 met on Sept. 18 for lunch and conversation at Dillon’s Wildlife World Zoo location. We enjoyed delicious barbecue favorites, visiting with each other, and watching the residents of their huge aquarium swim around. Thanks to Norma Klinger for making the arrangements. We’re looking forward to next month!
Unit 44’s Bocce Bunch
Jean Harris
Bocce Ball season has started, and Unit 44’s players are under a new name: The Bocce Bunch. We are an experienced and not-so-experienced bunch of fun-loving neighbors who can laugh at ourselves and occasionally win a game or two! Team members playing on Tuesday nights include Wayne “the Coach” Thomas, Curt Hoff, team captains Deborah and Scott Crabtree, Jody Hoff, Debbie Baron, Jim Thompson and, in front, the Jeans—Harris and Merkel.
Unit 44’s Crafty Ladies
Jean Harris
Fall is here, cooler weather near, and friends dear. In early October, Unit 44’s Jody Hoff hosted a Fall Craft afternoon with fellow neighbors Deb Fahey and Debbie Baron. The ladies made gorgeous wreaths and enjoyed time together, and will be doing other projects in the future.
Unit 44 Men Resume Monthly Breakfasts
Dan Harris
Nine men from Unit 44 gathered at Eagle’s Nest restaurant the morning of Oct. 1 for their first monthly breakfast after monthly summer lunches. Several men had not attended in quite a while, so much time was spent swapping stories about what everybody did during the summer. All were keenly interested in learning about the curious case of Scott Crabtree, our resident tax accountant who did not attend because he and other accountants are very busy in early October, in downtown Las Vegas—specifically being approached by so many feather-festooned showgirls and barely avoiding a public paddling for not finishing his burger at The Heart Attack Grill.
The men also shared news about neighbors and learned about a new neighbor who just moved in. All were glad to get together after a long summer and are looking forward to next month’s breakfast when more snowbirds arrive to share their stories of their summer adventures. Around the table (clockwise from the left foreground) were Bob Millikan (rocking the red shirt), Doug Kirkpatrick, Wayne Thomas, Don Paxton, Spike Razem, Dan Harris (photographer), Bob Adkins, Mike Stepien, and Paul Fahey.
Unit 46 Game Night—Men’s Billiards
Spike Razem
September’s third Friday of the month, Sept. 22, featured five tables of four people playing Bunco, along with several of the male non-Bunco’er’s shooting pool.
Organizer Carey Early did another outstanding job to make sure all Bunco action was legal, safe, and fun. She ensured (with photographic evidence) that the Bunco prize winners received their cash rewards. Most Buncos and Mini-Buncos was a tie between Liam Collopy and Dawn Razem. Most wins was awarded to Diane Brzozowski. And lastly, most Bunco losses was Unit 46’s “biggest loser” (and good sport) Doug Sackville.
While intense Bunco action took place in the Capri Room, across the hall in the Billiards Room were several men of Unit 46 handling some big sticks and having fun. Winners of their pool shooting competition were undisclosed, but certainly there were some amazingly spectacular highlights along with some agonizingly disappointing lowlights.
The bottom line was another enjoyable, successful Game Night for Unit 46!
Unit 51 October Ladies’ Luncheon
Janet Miazga
Unit 51’s October Ladies’ Luncheon took us to the Green Olive Bar & Grill in Litchfield Park. It is a newer restaurant where Ground Control once was and has a delicious menu of various dishes. Jane Wiederhold and Linda Campbell were our hosts this time and they provided lovely autumn table decor along with a goody bag of chocolates. The 11 of us attending enjoyed getting together again after some months apart for some of us.
Unit 51 Monthly Ladies’ Luncheons Return
Janet Miazga
Though it was a small group, Unit 51 started its monthly Ladies’ Luncheons on Sept. 11 at Eagle’s Nest restaurant. Attending were Karen McFall, Lynn Lucas, Sandra Adams, Bevy Hogan, Lori Rea, Pat Jensen, and myself. We enjoyed the time together catching up on how our summers were spent, along with good food and our great server, Aaron, who did a wonderful job making our lunch extra special. We look forward to getting our luncheons into full swing once the snowbirds have returned.
Unit 54 Men’s Breakfast
A sincere welcome to Bill Many who joins Unit 54 in PebbleCreek. Our October men’s breakfast group consisted of (from left): standing is Rajendra Sudan, Bill Many, Claire Martin, Steve Domholt, Jack Klepinger, Harold Rathman, Bill Gray, Fred Biancardi, Peter Chimicles, Jack Fink, and kneeling is Mike Strong.
Unit 57 Guys Getaway
Rick Johnson
The Unit 57 Guys Getaway group viewed “One Battle After Another,” an action-packed, 242-minute marathon dramedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. Following the movie, lunch at the Westwind Tavern was highlighted as Dan Ryan (center) regaled the group with details of their 70-day journey throughout Europe, planes, trains, buses, and automobiles, utilizing only six large rolling suitcases and one carry-on. Apparently, Dan and his wife are still speaking. Next, Robin Anderson (left) discussed their trip to Las Vegas, staying in luxury hotels, eating gourmet meals, drinking exotic wines, and experiencing C&W concerts in the Sphere. To be sure, a very memorable trip. Finally, Rick Johnson (right) told of the double cheeseburger deluxe he consumed at Five Guys the day before…
All in all, a great way to spend the afternoon here in PC. Stay tuned for the next adventure.

Attending were, from left to right: Paula Maitland, Sue Hunt, Lynn Jacobson, Sue Bohl, Beverly Kearsley, Barb Miller, Deb Riley, Brenda Deckard, and Vicky Roelker.
Unit 58 Ladies Dine at High Tide
Brenda Deckard
High Tide restaurant was the scene of our Unit 58 Ladies’ Lunch for the month of October. If you didn’t come, you definitely missed the boat. The food was amazing and our server really made sure things were perfect for all of us with his cheerfulness and sense of humor. Many of us who had never been there vowed to return with other friends and family.

On Sept. 24, nine members of the men’s breakfast group in Unit 58 traveled about 10 miles north to the “Pub Stop” in the Desert Diamond Casino. The staff there had reserved a spot in the dining room just for us, which we found to be more upscale than many of our previous venues. The service was timely and accurate, and the ambient noise was well below what one finds in many busy restaurants. We found menu pricing to be reasonable and the array of creative breakfast choices was quite appealing. The consensus of our group is that we would be pleased to return there in the future.
Unit 61 Ladies Bunco
Laurie Miller
On Oct. 1, ladies of Unit 61 gathered in the Milan Room for an enjoyable afternoon of Bunco. Laughter and friendly competition filled the air as dice rolled and cheers erupted with each winning round. The group enjoyed snacks and plenty of good conversation making it another great opportunity to connect, relax, and share a few laughs together.
Unit 61 Ice Cream Social
Laurie Miller
On Sept. 30, approximately 60 residents of Unit 61 gathered at the home of Donna and Bob Iverson for an evening featuring delicious ice cream and a wide variety of toppings from sprinkles and chocolate chips to fudge and whipped cream. To complement the sweet treats, Lynn Grice blended up refreshing mudslides, adding a cool and creamy twist to the event. Laughter and conversation flowed as everyone built their own sundaes and shared in the joy of good company.

On Oct. 8, 26 women from Unit 61 gathered for lunch at Copper & Sage. The event featured a festive Halloween theme, beautifully arranged by Ruth Mitchell and Arlene Highfill. With seasonal decorations, good food, Halloween treats, and plenty of laughter, everyone enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of friendship and fun. It was the perfect way to kick off the spooky season!

Unit 62A September Shenanigans
Toni Erickson
The annual September Shenanigans took place on Sept. 16 at the beautifully decorated home of Julie Greenbank, complete with a festive touch of Christmas. Each guest brought five wrapped gifts from the Dollar Tree, which became the center of five lively games. From “musical gifts” (a twist on musical chairs), to a left-right story, dice rolling, card drawing, and even a memory challenge with 50 items on a tray (one can only imagine how many items were remembered after a few adult beverages which fueled the fun!).
The gift selection was just as entertaining—ranging from sticky notes, a clapper, and a mini Christmas tree to a phone stand, night light, and even a drug test kit! A big thank-you to Julie for once again hosting this much-loved annual tradition.
Unit 62A September Happy Hour at the Bachmann’s
Toni Erickson
On Sept. 10, Unit 62A’s monthly happy hour was hosted at the beautiful home of Jackie and Tom Bachmann. Thankfully, the backup plan wasn’t needed despite the heat, though the gathering began at 6 p.m. instead of the usual 5 p.m. As always, guests brought their favorite drinks and an appetizer to share. The group had a great time and is gearing up for the rest of the neighbors to return from their vacations or summer homes.
Those enjoying the evening together are, from left to right, Elmer Greenbank, Bruce Banks, Ernie Henson, Renee Fisher, Tim Scanlon, Laurie Wyman, Jim Downey, Dale Scanlon, Tom Bachmann, Janet Henson, Lynn Banks, Jackie Bachmann, Cathe Pruyn, Barb Downey, and Judy Meservey.
