Unit Happenings – November 2023

Unit 3 Ladies’ Luncheon

Linda Babcock

The ladies of Unit 3 gathered for lunch on Oct. 9 at the Eagle’s Nest restaurant. It was nice getting together with neighborhood friends after a summer hiatus. It was quite apparent the group was pleased to get together once more judging by the accelerated conversations. More gatherings are forthcoming, and plans are being made for our annual holiday gathering to be held on Dec. 3.

Unit 12 Pool Gathering

Cathy Howell

Marla Benner invited the ladies of Unit 12 to come sit in and around her pool. We had a chance to see how our friends spent their summer and hear about plans for the upcoming holiday season. There are plans to get together again when more of our neighbors get back on campus. In the pool are Chris Koch, Kathy Koch, Marilyn Roberts, Jackie Armstrong, Cathy Howell, and Marla Benner, and seated are Susan Franzone, Debbie Clark, Audrey Dewan, Sharon Morris, and Karen Reese.

Unit 20 Ladies’ Lunch at Dillon’s

Peggy Pase

The ladies of Unit 20 met for lunch at Dillon’s at Wildlife World Zoo on Sept. 13. We enjoyed each other’s company, a delicious lunch, and watching the assorted sea life in the aquarium. It’s always fun to get together and visit with neighbors! Thanks to Norma Klinger for hosting, and for the photo. Looking forward to next month’s lunch!

Unit 26 Ladies’ Lunch

Gena Wikstrom

Unit 26 ladies enjoyed getting together over lunch Sept. 29. We enjoyed great camaraderie, laughs, fun people, and good food. What could be better?

Unit 34’s Welcome Back Patio Party” in 2022

Unit 34 Welcome Back Party

Bob Young

The 2023 Unit 34 “Welcome Back Patio Party” will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8. We have two special events every year. Our Welcome Back party is hosted by Susan and Bob Young, and our Lasagna Buffet party is hosted by Sam and Josie Montgomery.

In addition, Esther West organizes ladies’ luncheons throughout the year, our Kare Bears lady Jan Koberg welcomes all new residents with a welcome package, our Sunshine Lady Carolyn Bates sends out “ thinking of you” cards to residents going through some tough times, and our computer guru Merlyn Friesen maintains our official address list and map. Our Unit Contact Bob Young and our Co-Unit Contact Judie Harden keep the Unit informed and involved.

Our neighbors are important to all of us because they offer support and provide valuable insights about the neighborhood and PebbleCreek and help keep PebbleCreek a great place to live. Thanks to all.

Unit 36 Gals’ Luncheon

Jan Frustaglia

BJ’s Restaurant on McDowell Road was the location for Unit 36 Gals’ Luncheon on Oct. 4. The group met our Unit’s Kare Bear Coordinator, Margie Seibel. Plans are being made for three Knot-Tying Workshops and for a November potluck in a cul-de-sac for the entire Unit 36.

Unit 44 Eats!

Jean Harris

The question recently posed to Unit 44: How to get together as friends and neighbors in the last hot days of Arizona summer of 2023? Up for the challenge, our men and ladies of Unit 44 came up with a novel solution—eat together indoors! Braving fallen trees, road construction and traffic, the men ventured down the road to Verrado Grill in Buckeye while our group of ladies gathered for food and conversation indoors at the Park Cafe in Litchfield Park. We are happy to report that our September gatherings found all hydrated, happy for companionship, and dreaming about that first cool front of fall.

Unit 44 Breakfast at Eagle’s Nest

Jean Harris

The men of Unit 44 reunited for breakfast after a long, hot summer. Meeting at Eagle’s Nest on Oct. 4, the neighbors were joined by Dan Harris’s son, Aaron, visiting from a cooler, far-off place called Michigan. Two tables were needed for the group, which included those pictured, left to right: Aaron Harris, Jim Miller, Bob Atkins, Ken Russo, Steve Rustman, Mike Stepien, and Dan Harris. Due to excitement over eating pancakes and bacon, only one table was photographed for posterity. Not pictured were Scott Crabtree, Bob Olson, Wayne Thomas, Paul Fahey, Larry Clark, Marc Johnson, Don Paxton, and our very own Michael “Spike” Razem.

Unit 49 Wii Bowling winners

Unit 49A Bowling and Buffet

Robin Macik

On Sept. 30, Unit 49 got together for an evening of Wii Bowling and an Italian Buffet. There were 55 participants of which we had 48 bowlers. The evening began at 4:15 p.m. when the bar opened and check-in began. While the residents socialized, Nancy and Larry Burnson, Tim and Judy DeGeorge, Margie and Brad Guck, Melanie George, Robin Thomas, Jo Kunishige, Caron McNicholas, and Della Domingo were busy getting the TVs and room set up for play.

Participants were paired up into teams of two. The first game bowled was an alternate bowler much like Scotch Doubles in regular bowling, except the first bowler threw all odd frames and second bowler threw all even frames. After the first game, scores were handed in and afterward the winners were announced. The winners were: 1st place Margie and Brad Guck with a 210, 2nd place, a tie, Max and Janet Fossey and Tim and Judy DeGeorge with a 189, and 3rd place Gary and Jan Glascock with a 186. Each individual received a coveted gold medal. Wii Bowling continued in whatever style the groups wanted until 6 p.m., during which time Marie Souza bowled a 244!

After bowling, everyone joined together in the dining area for a delicious buffet of Italian food and scrumptious desserts. A great evening was had by all.

Unit 51 Ladies’ Luncheon

Janet Miazga

On Sept. 14, Unit 51 started up their monthly Ladies’ Luncheons again. It was so great to see gals we hadn’t seen in a few months. Though a small number due to many residents being away, the seven of us—Barb Stone, Jane Wiederhold, Judy Healy, Lynn Lucas, Pat Jensen, Peggy Davis, and I—enjoyed a delicious lunch at Eagle’s Nest with great service and a “bountiful harvest” theme. It was nice to catch up on what had been happening during our summer, as well as discuss future events for our unit, which we’re certainly looking forward to.

Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast

The men of unit 58 gathered once again for another men’s breakfast, on Sept. 21. As would seem logical, the number in attendance varies in inverse proportion to the outside temperature.  This time we had 15 who happily enjoyed the comfort, convenience, and quality of our food at Eagle’s Nest dining room. We also had our event memorialized by the photographic skills of our server, Jessica Branch, who created the attached photo.

Next month might be a venture “off campus,” depending on availability to seat our group.

Unit 62A September Ladies’ Lunch

Toni Erickson

Some of our ladies from the unit had dined at this restaurant and gave it a thumbs up, so a few more decided to give Bonfire Craft Kitchen and Tap House a try. The outing took place at the W Bell Road, Surprise, location on Sept. 7. By the look of the Unit 62A ladies’ faces, one would say you need to give it a try, too! Those giving their “Amens” to the restaurant, from left to right around the table, are: Joanne Wrout, Pat Gonzales, Laurie Wyman, Sheryl Lipp, Judy Meservey, Julie Greenbank, Barb Downey, Renee Fisher, and Cathe Pruyn.
