Unit 20 January Ladies’ Lunch
Peggy Pase
The ladies of unit 20 met on Jan. 22 at BJ’s in Goodyear. They enjoyed lunch specials (pazookies included!), conversation, and sharing photos and memories of our neighbor Lynne Johnson, who passed away on Jan. 3. Lynne’s smile, generous spirit, and active involvement will be missed by all she knew. We look forward to our next gathering. (Photo by Peggy Pase)
Unit 39 Happenings
Norma Whitley
Members of Unit 39 took part in the Adopt-A-Family program coordinated by the Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS) of the Greater Phoenix area. All families in the program are nominated by JFCS clinicians and caseworkers who know firsthand who in the community is most in need. Our unit representative Donna Moffat received a family profile along with a wish list of needs for a family consisting of two parents and four children. All of the requests of the adopted family were met through the generosity of members in Unit 39.
On Feb. 2, 48 members of Unit 39 gathered at six host homes for a Chili Dinner Gathering. Each host prepared the main chili dish and sides, and guests helped by bringing other food items to compliment the meal. This gave the residents of Unit 39 the opportunity to converse and get to know each other better. We are thankful and appreciate the unit host residents for opening their homes for the gatherings. An enjoyable evening was had by all that were able to attend.
Unit 39 consists of 140 homes, so the unit coordinator Donna Moffat and her committee have been busy discussing ideas to bring its residents together in manageable size groups for enjoyable events and gatherings to foster friendships and camaraderie.
If you live in Unit 39 and would like to be notified and take part in future planned events, please contact the unit coordinator Donna Moffat at [email protected] for more information. Also, please contact Donna to update your information (phone, email, etc.).
Unit 40 Ladies’ Lunch
DeeDee Fast
Ten ladies from Unit 40 met on Jan. 30 at The Stillery in GSQ for a delicious lunch. We had a good time catching up on how the holidays had gone and plans for the coming weeks. We decided to take turns hosting future monthly lunches. The hostess will pick the location and make reservations for the group. We look forward to meeting again soon.

Unit 44 Men’s Breakfast
Dan Harris
Twelve men from Unit 44 gathered at Eagle’s Nest restaurant on the morning of Feb. 5 to enjoy their monthly breakfast. Tim Heytens, a Unit 44 snowbird, was the special guest of honor because it was his first time to attend breakfast since May 2021! Tim quickly seized the moment by easily memorizing everybody’s first names, whereupon he was heavily pressured to join the Trivia Team. Meanwhile, most of the morning was spent peppering Dan Harris with follow-up questions about his recent LifeLong Learning presentation on the Upstream Oil and Natural Gas Industry. Dan was talking so much about drilling techniques and hydraulic fracturing that the rest of the group had already licked their plates clean when Dan was only halfway finished with his pancakes. Attendees at the large table include (L-R) Dan Harris (photographer), Tim Heytens, John Arpan, Wayne Thomas, Larry Weber, Bob Olson, Doug Kirkpatrick, and Jack Campbell. Attendees at the small table, reserved for late arrivals, are (L-R) Bob Adkins, Frank Gorski, Rick Labasky, and Ken Russo.
Unit 44 Not PC Takes 2nd at Trivia
Jean Harris
Neighbors from Unit 44 (team name: 44 Not PC … not politically correct) came together on Jan. 16 for trivia at Westwind Tavern. The group placed second out of 18 for this first of hopefully many more fun trivia nights. Clockwise from left: Erin (visiting sister-in-law of Gwen DeBernardi), Gwen, captain Barbara Kamm, Jim Miller, and Jean and Dan Harris.

Pictured left to right are Donna Thomas, Barbara Kamm, Gwen DeBernardi, Jean Merkel, Peggy Hayner, Diane Russo, Mary Lou Stepien, and Jean Harris.
Unit 53 ROMEO Lunch
The first Friday lunch spot for February was Bubba’s 33. Ron Guerin, the men’s coordinator for Unit 53, has wisely chosen to keep their monthly ROMEO outings consistent on the first Friday of every month. So men of Unit 53, mark your calendars for the first Friday of March today and join this fun bunch!
Ladies Tea in Unit 53
Valerie Spiegel
Two of our more sophisticated residents staged a proper English tea for all the women in Unit 53. It was fun to break out our best hats that we’ve been holding on to for just such an occasion. A superb time was had by all—everything was simply elegant!
Unit 53 Brown Bag Lunch
Valerie Spiegel
The Oasis Pool provided a picturesque setting for Unit 53 to officially welcome its snow/rain birds. Our unit coordinator, Michelle McKee, dubs this gathering as the annual “brown bag lunch.” We are fortunate to have this beautiful venue within walking distance from our homes.

Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast
Ed Raker
We gathered on Jan. 17 at one of our favorite spots, TJ’s Homestyle Restaurant. That’s a good name for this establishment. The food is cooked to order and the menu has options you won’t find everywhere. Our attendance was a little bit lighter than usual, but there was no lack of fun and frivolity. We enjoy getting together, whether 2 or 22 in the group.
Unit 62A with “Clouds in My Coffee”
Toni Erickson
On Jan. 24, members of Unit 62A enjoyed a dinner of their choice before spending an evening at the Orpheum Theatre with the Phoenix Symphony, taking in the “Clouds in My Coffee” concert. The performance featured the trailblazing music of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simon. A kind gentleman took the group photo. Those attending, from left to right: Vic Coates, Janelle Watts, Charlie Newcomer, Tom Bowman, Julie Shelton, Marilyn Coates, Julie Greenbank, Barb Downey, Stacey and Bill Carp, Joanne Wrout, and Marilyn Newcomer.
January Ladies’ Lunch for 62A
Toni Erickson
The ladies of 62A enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Westwind Tavern, the newest addition to our already impressive amenities in Tuscany Falls. For some, it was a first-time experience, while others had visited before. For all of us, it was a perfect blend of great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and even better company which equates to another spectacular time together. Those standing in the background are Laurie Lyman, Joanne Wrout (hiding), Janelle Watts, Paula Hupka, Julie Greenbank, Patti Trapp, and Cathe Pruyn. Those sitting in front of them are Dale Scanlon, Pat Gonzales, and Marilyn Coates. On the other side of the table from front to back are Jackie Bachmann, Barb Downey, Toni Erickson, and Renee Fisher.

Unit 62B Luncheon at the Yardhouse
Judy Freidman
Lin Ochs was honored at our January ladies luncheon for her years of service to our unit. As a thank you she was presented with flowers, a gift certificate to the pro shop, and a sign “Reserved for Mayor” for her golf cart space. Lin was on our first social committee in 2017 and still continues to serve as our HOA representative and many other roles to keep our unit active and informed. We presented Lin with a very large Thank You card that was signed by every resident in our unit of 102 homes. With over 25 ladies in attendance it was a celebration enjoyed by all.
