Unit Happenings – June 2026

Unit 8 Lunch Gathering

Alisa Moore

The ladies of Unit 8 kicked off the summer with a sumptuous Chinese feast at Eest Asian Bistro in Avondale, one of the regular selections we enjoy because of the quality service, plenty of room for all of us, and excellent food. Whether you are a seasonal resident, live in PebbleCreek full-time, or are visiting, please consider joining us. To do so, please contact Jane Holdcroft at jkh2125@aol.com. We would love to include you in our next outing!

Unit 12 Lunch at Verrado Grille

Cathy Howell

The ladies of Unit 12 held the monthly luncheon for April at Verrado Grille. Many of our neighbors have plans to travel, sightsee, celebrate, and hang out with their families this summer. And of course, there is a nice size group that enjoys the quiet summers here.

Unit 20 Ladies’ Lunch

Unit 20 ladies met at the recently opened Mission Barbecue on McDowell Road on April 15. We had a great time enjoying barbecue favorites and catching up. The manager was very attentive and appreciative of PebbleCreek support. Looking forward to our next lunch! (Photo by Peggy Pase)

Unit 42B Goodbye SnowBirds BBQ

Carol Flores

Unit 42B gathered to say goodbye to snowbirds for a party by the pool. Our grill masters were Randy Moore and Mark Sellnow. Sherrie Namath made a collage of all our unit activities this season.

Villas 43B Community Block Party

On March 15, Villas 43B held its 11th annual Potluck Block Party. The event provided an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate, and foster connections. Neighbors enjoyed a variety of dishes, and no one went home hungry.

The evening offered more than just food and fellowship. Mike Vickers, PC Director of Community Services, addressed homeowners’ community safety concerns, answered questions, and offered tips on securing their homes, such as motion lighting, surveillance, and situational awareness.

Sip and Dip Party for Unit 44 at the Oasis Pool

Jean Harris

A smiling, relaxed group from Unit 44 met on May 7 at the Oasis Pool for a Sip and Dip party. Margaritas, chips and dip, burger bites, meatballs, and desserts were on offer on a beautiful PebbleCreek night. We send our snowbirds off with love, to return after the rest of us brave the summer heat and have more pool time. FUN friend of Unit 44, Carl Halladay Jr., took our group photo.

Prada 2” T-shirt also: Jean Harris, Karen Robbins, Gwen DeBernardi, Jody Hoff, Gayle
Lopez, Peggy Hayner, Deborah Crabtree, and Debbie Baron. That’s all.

Unit 44 Wears Prada Too

Jean Harris

Everybody wants this.” “Everybody wants to be us. This was the case on April 30, at Harkins Theaters Estrella Falls in Goodyear, when The Devil Wears Prada 2 movie hit the theater. While a million girls would kill to see the movie first, Unit 44 and friends got to do just that. Far from moving at a glacial pace, everyone was ready as the group donned The Devil Wears Prada 2 shirts and accessories and showed up for the 4 p.m. show. Had Nigel been in the theater, he would have commented, “Well, look what TJ Maxx dragged in.” No one ordered snacks because, as fashion-forward ladies, we all know that if we got hungry, we would just eat a cube of cheese before we were about to pass out. Instead, we sang along to Lady Gaga’s Shape of a Woman and had fun. That’s all.

A cheerful group photo captured the moment. Seated (left to right): Darrell Livingston,

Unit 44 Men’s Breakfast Rebounds Strongly

Dan Harris

After an utterly dismal turnout at the previous gathering, Unit 44 bounced back in fine form on May 6 as 12 hungry men filled two tables at Eagle’s Nest for a lively breakfast.

The group carried over the good spirits from the previous evening’s Cinco de Mayo celebration at Ron Lopez’s house. Ron himself was notably absent—not because he partied too late as host, but because he was already back at work that morning. But he’s seeing how much fun Unit 44 has, so maybe we’re changing his mind about retiring so he can join more often.

The breakfast also marked a welcome return for Larry Clark, who hadn’t attended since the summer of 2024. Larry wasted no time making his presence felt, diving straight into detailed advice on electric water heaters for Scott Crabtree. Scott, still waiting for his coffee to fully activate, soon found himself undersaturated with information—especially with a contentious call to a government agency looming later in the day.

Mark Eichkorn provided another surprise by not ordering his legendary crispy hash browns and burnt bacon. He’s cutting back on filling his belly just before a pickleball match.

And, in an esteemed note of dedication and valor, Don Paxton flew in all the way from Canada last night to attend breakfast. Oopsnever mindhe planned to fly back even before the breakfast invitation was sent out.

This gathering wrapped up the spring breakfast season on a high note. The men will shift to summer lunches, allowing more time for morning golf rounds and pickleball matches before the Arizona heat becomes too unbearable.

Unit 46’s La Bocce Vita

Spike Razem

PebbleCreek’s Wednesday evenings feature some of the best (and worst) bocce ball players in Arizona. Once that first pallino is thrown, some great action usually follows from both competing teams.

Bocce ball is an ideal activity for Creeker seniors as it encourages both social interaction and physical activity. It also helps to improve hand-eye coordination and balance.

The awesome Unit 46 teamLa Bocce Vita, is captained and co-captained by Ron Kieras and Jim Ramberg. Although the team is currently in last place, per Captain Ron “we’re having fun, improving with experience, and all are committed to getting better.”

Soooo, according to AI, “to get better at bocce ball, focus on consistent underhand throwing form, precise distance control, and strategic play.” (Don’t we all just love that AI advice?!)

Most importantly “getting together and having fun” is the continued theme for Unit 46.

Cheers to La Bocce Vita!

Unit 46’s Active Book Club

Spike Razem

The avid book readers in Unit 46 enjoy getting together each month to discuss some (mostly) good books.

Efficiently organized by Susan Kopecky, up to 12 Unit 46 neighbors meet on the second Thursday each month at Tuscany Falls library. This past month was “Everyone Here is Lying” by Shari Lapena, which was generally well-liked. Many were surprised by the plot twist, and the ending left you with some unanswered questions.

The group decided on the following list for the remainder of 2026:

Moonlight Club by Karen McQuestion

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr

The Home Front by Kristin Hannah

The Frozen River by Ariel Lawton

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

Readers stay tuned for more spine-tingling storylines, clever plot twists, dynamic characters, heart-pounding thrillers, teary-eyed endings, etc. The Book Club’s adventures and fun continue in Unit 46!

Unit 48 Bocce Event

Rochelle Zuckerbrow

On April 12 Unit 48 had approximately 50 people for a fun evening of bocce ball. We brought in Barros pizza and then hit the courts. We had some neighbors who are on bocce teams and others who had never played before. We had a fun evening. Thanks to Lisa Bagshaw for organizing this event.

Unit 53 Men’s Lunch

Valerie Spiegel

The R.O.M.E.O. lunch on May Day was at Chili’s on Litchfield Road. No doubt the conversation was riveting but unfortunately the Kentucky Derby never came up. Therefore, no one shared their expertise on the equine and everyone missed out on Golden Tempo’s big payout. Despite this missed opportunity, they are still smiling and will meet again the first Friday of June. Just call Ron Guerin (785-550-5052) and he’ll tell you where.

Unit 54 Ladies’ Lunch

Barb Dunson

Unit 54 had a small cozy Ladies’ Lunch at Rio Mirage in Surprise on April 30. In attendance were Julie Kemper, Cindy Klein, Judy Vogt, Judy Kettlewell, and Barb Dunson. We all chose from the lunch specials—a good price and a just-right smaller size. Each choice was delicious. Snowbirds have left, which is typical and makes outings smaller.

Unit 56 April Ladies’ Luncheon

Judy Maloney

On April 23, 15 residents from Unit 56 gathered at Copper & Sage for a delicious lunch and lively conversation. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect and enjoy a great meal together. Copper & Sage proved to be a popular spot for group luncheons, as we even shared the room with the ladies from Unit 62B!

Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast

Ed Raker

The Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast guys “flooded the zone” in their enthusiasm to return to TJ’s Homestyle Restaurant in Avondale. This place is one to be experienced for its classic diner feel and foods that are available nowhere else. And, as a favor to our group, they provided us with a divider to give us a semi-private dining room of our own. You can bet we will be back soon.

“Pretty Woman” Performance Attended by Unit 62A

Toni Erickson

Unit 62A made a full day of it on April 11, attending the Arizona Broadway Theatre production of Pretty Woman. Everyone purchased their own tickets for the 2 p.m. performance, but gathered at the theater ahead of time to enjoy each other’s company and share in the excitement of the show. Following the performance, the group continued the fun by heading to Firebirds, where they experienced dinner together, good conversation, and a relaxing end to a very pleasurable day.

Those enjoying the day together were, from left to right: Patti and Mike Trapp, Gary Watts, two of the performers on either side of Julie Greenbank in the center, Janelle Watts, Paula Hupka and Gerry Hibbard, and Cathe Pruyn.

Unit 62B Ladies’ Luncheon

Judy Freidman

The ladies of Unit 62B enjoyed lunch at Copper & Sage where they enjoyed great food and service. We get together once a month to check out and support our local restaurants. This month we celebrated spring, pinwheels, and Mother’s Day. After lunch we headed home for more socializing and fun playing the card game Golf, which is an easy game that combines a lot of luck and a little bit of skill and strategy.
