Unit Happenings – February 2015

Unit 6 party highlights

Sheila Jacobson

There couldn’t have been more laughter and fun at the Unit 6 White Elephant gathering on December 17. Among the 30 or so folks there, we met new residents as well as many neighbors getting reacquainted with friends that just returned for the winter season. White Elephant rules dictate that a gift can be stolen only three times. Well, it got down right competitive. This group had quite a standoff with a couple of very popular gifts!

After the laughter calmed, it was decided that this was the first annual White Elephant party for Unit 6!

I wonder how many of the same tacky gifts we’ll see re-gifted next year.

Unit 8 Christmas party

On December 16, 31 ladies from Unit 8 met for their annual Christmas Party. Everyone had a wonderful time meeting and visiting with neighbors. The dinner was potluck so great food was enjoyed by all. The ladies of the unit meet once a month for lunch. If you live in Unit 8 and want more information about our gatherings call Jane Holdcroft at  623-935-2125.

Unit 20 – January luncheon

Carolyn Rota and Ann Thomas

On January 8, 14 Ladies from Unit 20 held their monthly luncheon. What a wonderful way to start off 2015. The luncheon was held at the Goodyear Red Lobster Restaurant. Our gracious hostess was Ann Thomas. Ann provided each person with a lovely gift to celebrate the New Year. We welcomed brand new neighbors Bridget and Tina Calia who moved all the way from Brooklyn, New York, from snow to sun; good choice, ladies. February’s luncheon will be hosted by Jo Sadler and Joy Reilly, so Unit 20 ladies keep an eye out for an email from them.

Unit 40 Holiday Brunch

Diane Passafiume

The Palm Room was filled to capacity as the residents of Unit 40 came together to celebrate the holidays with a wonderful morning brunch at Eagle’s Nest. There was even a surprise visit by Santa Claus, aka Keith Passafiume, to add to the merriment. The food and the service were excellent. Thanks to Dick and Sherry Atwater for hosting the event.

Unit 40 donation

Diane Passafiume

In the spirit of holiday giving, residents of Unit 40 were asked to bring food donations to our December holiday brunch held in Eagle’s Nest. Due to their generosity Unit 40 was able to make a sizeable donation to the Agua Fria Food Bank. Pictured is Keith Passafiume as he prepares to load some of the food to take to the food bank. Thanks again to all who donated to this very worthy cause.

Unit 40 sports fans

Some of the Unit 40 Bocce Ball team members along with a few friends attended the Phoenix Suns game organized by the PebbleCreek Activity Center. There are so many things going on in this wonderful community; it is great when units can get a group together and join other residents in the numerous activities offered. What a great way to meet new people. I would like to mention that the United 40 Bocce Ball Team won the overall championship for the Fall League winning their last 11 games in a row. Way to go! Thanks to Jeff Young for organizing.

Unit 41 Christmas

Phyllis Minsuk

Unit 41 held its ninth annual Holiday Dinner in the Tuscany Falls Chianti Room on December 19. As always, everyone had a wonderful time connecting and sharing holiday cheer and plans with their neighbors.

As a special treat, music and song was provided by lovely 17 year old Lauren Barnard, daughter of a friend of Dotty and Barry Taschner.

Lauren sang holiday songs, Christmas carols and inspirational songs. The attendees were very happy to welcome new neighbors this year: Denton and Judy Hanford, Chuck and Myra Saunders and Bella and Bob Williams.

Unit 42A cookbook sales

A Taste and Touch of Home is the Unit 42A cookbook that is hot off the press. All profits from the sale of the cookbook go to the Homeless Youth Connection. Jan Howard, coordinator of the cookbook, said she got the idea of doing the book after attending a couple of Unit 42 potluck parties. The food was great and she said she knew right away that a Unit cookbook could be a big success. The word was put out to all residents in the unit to send their favorite recipes to Jan and she would then organize them and find someone to print up the book. The final product is a great little book of 97 tried and true recipes and some simple craft ideas which one might like to use to help entertain visiting grandchildren. The cookbook, which sells for $5, makes a great hostess gift or just a great addition to one’s own cookbook collection. The book will be for sale at the first annual PebbleCreek DesertFest to be held Saturday, February 7, 2015, outside the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Look for the book in the Homeless Youth Connection tent. If your unit or organization is having a gathering and you would like to have the books available for purchase please contact Sandy Heintz at [email protected] or Jan Howard at [email protected].

Unit 42B – Holiday Spirits Abound

Following a fabulous Unit 42B Welcome Back sunset party at Bob and Linda Labenz’s home in November, we kicked off the holiday season with our annual Christmas Martini Party hosted by Terry and Janice Rossi, including collecting donations of more than $1,200 to be presented to Kare Bears before the end of the year. Our holiday spirit didn’t stop there––we had multiple open houses planned throughout Christmas week with folks gathering to celebrate and bring in the New Year. Thank you so much, Unit 42B. We are looking forward to what 2015 brings!
