Linda Babcock

The Gals of Unit 3 and a couple of invited friends enjoyed a luncheon at the Tuscany Falls boardroom on April 20. Each guest was given an envelope with jokes or words of inspiration to share. This was a social afternoon filled with laughter and fun. Thanks to our host, Kristy Cusack, for arranging this fun gathering.

Unit 3 Mix and Mingle

Linda Babcock

Friends from Unit 3 gathered on April 22 in the backyard of Linda Babcock and Eddie Schroeder for appetizers and drinks to celebrate the beginning of summer. Neighbors had an opportunity to see one another before the exit to cooler climates. The gathering began at 4 p.m. and ran past 7 p.m., as the weather cooperated. Friendships were enjoyed with a variety of tasty food, laughter, and conversation. Social gatherings will begin again in October once neighbors return.

Unit 8 Ladies’ Luncheon

The ladies from Unit 8 very much enjoyed their April luncheon at the Irish Wolfhound. To attend or to bring a Unit 8 guest to the next Ladies’ Luncheon, please contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected]. (Photo by Jane Holdcroft)

Unit 12 Luncheon

Cheryl D. Macken

Unit 12 met at Red Allen’s Bar and Grill at Wigwam for our last get-together before the snowbirds head out.

Unit 20 April Ladies’ Lunch

Peggy Pase

The ladies of Unit 20 continue to enjoy monthly lunches together. On April 12, Janet Szylkonis hosted at Macayo’s and we enjoyed great company and lunch specials. We all had a good time and are looking forward to the next one!

Spring BBQ at Oasis Pool

Peggy Pase

Twenty-three residents of Unit 20 enjoyed a spring BBQ at Oasis Pool on April 16. We were fortunate that the grills were installed two days before our event! Neighbors enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs, plus potluck sides contributed by attendees—all delicious! We had a good time catching up with unit friends we already knew, as well as meeting new neighbors. Looking forward to another one in the fall!

Maureen Plate

Paulette and Leroy Stenzel hosted a great social evening for Units 22 and 25 at their home on April 20. It was a beautiful evening to enjoy their lovely patio and all the delicious food brought by the neighbors. A large crowd attended and were happy to get together before the snowbirds leave for the summer. Those of us who remain will plan some indoor entertainment until our cool weather returns.

A Neighborhood Gathering

Mmmmmm delicious … ice cream and great neighbors!

On April 16, 30 Unit 27A neighbors gathered on Cec and Alan Roberts’ patio to enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream social. Cones, chocolate sauce, and cookies sparked conversations before folks began scattering for a summer break to cooler places and family visits around the country. Many neighbors will stay and enjoy the desert’s hot temperatures. They’ll be up early in the “cooler” mornings or wait until late evenings to walk their dogs and shoo away the rabbits and coyotes at the 12th tee on the East Course.

When the temperatures begin to drop in the fall, there’ll be an annual “Cooling Down” gathering welcoming everyone back to our “piece of paradise” in the desert.

Unit 44 Ladies’ Brunch

Jean Harris

On April 11, Unit 44 ladies were treated to a lovely brunch hosted at Jean Merkel’s. Jean and friend Rochelle Zuckerbrow set out a lavish and delectable spread of breakfast dishes, salads, baked goods, and drinks. Dining on Jean’s back porch at tables set up for the occasion, the ladies visited and welcomed a few new neighbors.

Cruising Lake Pleasant

Jean Harris

A group of Unit 44 neighbors spent a lovely afternoon at Lake Pleasant on a narration cruise on April 14. The weather was perfect as the boat, piloted by Captain Matt, cruised around the immense lake. Several wild burros were spotted, as well as blue herons. A history of the man-made lake was provided, and a good time had by all.

Hawaiian Luau at Unit 44

Jean Harris

Unit 44 was treated to a Hawaiian Luau gathering on April 21 at the home of Jody and Curt Hoff. The Hoffs lit up their gorgeous home and backyard with tropical decor and Hawaiian leis. They provided a stunning array of food and drinks, including roast pork, pineapple, rum punch, and more. Entertainment was provided by the PebbleCreek Ukulele Club, a highlight being a rendition of “Tiny Bubbles” complete with a bubble machine! A hula dance contest ensued with Michael “Spike” Razem taking the top prize. Thanks to the Hoffs for providing a blow-out enchanting evening!

Unit 51 April Luncheon

Janet Miazga

April 13 found the ladies of Unit 51 gathered together again for our monthly luncheon, this time at Babbo Italian Eatery. Our hosts, Lynn Lucas and Sandra Adams, arranged for our group to have our own dining area and decorated the tables with Easter décor and delicious chocolates. In addition to the 17 unit friends, we welcomed some guests—Bevy Hogan brought two visiting friends from Tucson and Dee Blount had her Washington state daughter here with her. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all, and some goodbyes were said to those who will be leaving before our next luncheon. There’s always something fun to look forward to for the Unit 51 gals!

Unit 52 Spring Fling Putt and Dine

On April 27, Unit 52 gathered at Tuscany Falls practice putting greens. Several holes had obstacles placed to hinder their putting. Approximately 40 members and guests attended with prizes awarded to the top three teams. After the putting event we headed over to the Chianti Room for drinks and a delicious Italian buffet. Fun was had by all with requests to repeat the event in the future.

Unit 62A at PopStroke Mini Golf

Those attending the “Unit 62A Pro Am Mini Golf Day” were, from left to right, Vic and Marilyn Coates, Barb Downey, Janelle Watts, Jim Downey, Dale Scanlon, Gary Watts, Bruce Banks, and photographer Lynn Banks.

Toni Erickson

On April 6, our unit’s monthly activity took us to PopStroke. It opened recently in Glendale at Westgate next to Dave and Buster’s. PopStroke is a new mini golf venue, which Tiger Woods is a co-creator and owner of. There are two 18-hole putting courses, one more suitable for beginners and one for more advanced golfers. It is all putting, and you can even bring your own putter. (There are no windmills or dragons or anything of that nature, just adult putting greens.) It has a restaurant, rooftop bar, mini golf, ice cream shop, and children’s play space. They open at 10 a.m., and you can play all day for one price. If you are 65 or older, the price is $20 and if you are under 65, the price is $30.

April in 62A!

Unit 62A ladies’ lunch

Toni Erickson

So much goes on in Unit 62A that two submissions per month doesn’t come close to conveying the fun that our Social Committee puts together every month of the year. The ladies’ lunch was held at Lakeside Grill on April 14, which has become one of our ladies’ favorite restaurant spots. The outdoor dining area overlooks the lake and resort accommodations, which lends to a beautiful panoramic view while eating and chatting. They do not take reservations, so our group goes early to get the prime seating spots. There is a nice walking path around the lake so taking walking shoes is advised to walk off the delicious lunch! Those attending the luncheon included Kathleen Brown, Renee Fisher, Judy Meservey, Julie Greenbank, Dale Scanlon, Barb Downey, Janelle Watts and Toni Erickson.

The monthly happy hour was hosted by Bruce and Lynn Banks on April 18, and the unit relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company in their wonderful home and backyard. On April 20, Judy Meservey hosted a wine tasting event at Total Wine, which she had bid on during a Kare Bears luncheon. The 20 people who signed up learned about the wines of Italy and got to sample several different wines from that region. The annual Snowbird Pizza Party was held on April 25 at the Oasis Pool. People were encouraged to enjoy the pool while conversing amongst their neighbors, which many took advantage of. Also on April 25 the Smarty Pants upped their game once again and came in fourth on Trivia Night at Augie’s Sports Grill. April was another great month for Unit 62A!

Unit 62B Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Judy Freidman

Unit 62B had a wonderful afternoon at Sunrise Park with games including hot taco (similar to hot potato) and the cactus toss. Prizes were awarded to the winners.

Maria’s tacos of beef, pork, and chicken were delicious, as well as a tres leches cake for dessert.

Many thanks to our social committee of Sandy Angus, Patrice Chatterton, Mary Cornwell, Judy Freidman, Nancy Moore, Marie Shubin, and Sandy Sobocinski for planning this great event.

Our unit also has monthly cards, bunco, men’s breakfasts, and ladies’ luncheons. We often have new residents, so these activities allow us to get acquainted more often and visit with unit friends as well.

Unit 62B Mixed 9-Hole Golf Scramble

Lynn King

The first annual 62B mixed golf outing was held on April 15. Thirty-six neighbors participated, choosing their own two-person teams for the event. The weather was gorgeous, and many stayed to enjoy a beverage afterwards with new friends and neighbors. The day was a great success.

Winners:

* Low Gross—Janice Scott and husband Danny Neely won a $50 prize.

* Low Net—Scott and Debbie McEachern won a $25 prize.

* Least Number of Putts—Ron Chatterton and Gary Laurie (friend in PC), each won $25 Tailgater’s Bucks.

A big thanks to Brian King for stepping in, and thanks to all who participated. Looks like this will become a yearly event; see you again in April 2024!

Villas 43B Ladies’ Lunch

Susan Knox Wilson

When the Villas 43B ladies gathered for lunch in April, it didn’t go quite as smoothly as Event Coordinator Georgia Horvath had hoped.

“Ladies, we have good news and bad news,” wrote Georgia in an email to the attendees. “The good news is we have 29 of you coming to meet your new neighbors! The bad news is Eagle’s Nest management said they can’t accommodate 29 people in a group. So, I have decided to have 15 at Eagle’s Nest, and I have drawn 13 names to go to Toscana’s with me.

“I was delighted so many gals wanted to participate,” noted Georgia, “but next time we’ll have to find a venue that can handle all our 43B party-goers!”
