Unit 8
The Unit 8 Ladies Luncheon was held at Dinos in November and great fun was had by all. To join us, contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected]. We love to welcome those new to the unit or those who are returning after time away!
Unit 27A
Let the Holidays Begin!
Camille Grabb
It’s that time of year that the ladies in Unit 27A gather to take a break to enjoy lunch in between shopping, decorating, and cooking for the upcoming holidays. This year it was on Dec. 6, at Toscana’s—good food, good service, and good conversations! Thanks to Joan Schmidt for coordinating the arrangements.
Whenever these fun-loving friends gather, there are always lots of smiles and neighborhood updates. This year’s winter season outings are already planned (yes, spouses welcome, too), so there’s more fun to come!
Unit 42B Martini Party and Fundraiser
Holiday generosity and good cheer was plentiful as Unit 42B celebrated at their annual martini party and Kare Bear fundraiser. Bob and Claudia Marlin were the consummate hosts in their festively decorated home and poolside oasis. Terry Rossi was the chief martini maker with his secret holiday recipe for added cheer. Kare Bear Unit 42B coordinator, Jan DeHaven, sends a special “thank you” to the neighbors for their generous gifts at the holiday fundraiser and martini party that yielded over $1,600 for the benefit of our PC Kare Bears, Neighbors helping Neighbors.
Unit 51 Holiday Party

The holiday spirit was alive and well on Dec. 9 as 53 Unit 51 residents met in the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse for our annual holiday party. We first gathered for beverages and appetizers in the Portofino Lounge where we shared our holiday plans and many met our newest neighbors, Pam and Bill Cagle, who moved here from Arkansas. We also welcomed Derry Davison’s daughter and son-in-law, who were visiting from Houston – they were quite impressed with our PebbleCreek hospitality. Of course we continued our tradition of caroling, led by our PC Singers resident, Doug Christensen, which always puts us in the Christmas mood. Dinner time took us into the Chianti Room, which was nicely decorated by our Unit Social Committee, and after delicious food and impeccable service, we were entertained by Forever Young and danced the night away. Happy holiday season to all, and a great new year!
Unit 51 Ladies Luncheon
Janet Miazga
Our November Unit 51 Ladies’ Luncheon once again took us to Hayashi Hibachi restaurant here in Goodyear, where you not only get a delicious meal but first-rate entertainment also! Our chef performed quite a show while preparing our lunches on the grill right in front of us while 11 ladies enjoyed watching and chatting with each other. This month’s hostess, Irene Jensen, displayed her kindness by giving each of us gals a lovely gift bag containing a hand fan and some delicious mint chocolates.
As always, these gals of Unit 51 appreciated the chance to get together with their friends and neighbors.
Unit 53 Gals Get-Together
Sandy Stephens
Barb Roberts hosted the Unit 53 gals for a get-together in her home on Nov. 19. So many of the gals commented that it was so nice to be in a home rather than sit at a long table at a restaurant and only get to talk to the person next to them. Barb had wine, champagne, mimosas, and soda along with an island full of goodies to munch on. The weather was conducive to sitting outside overlooking a beautiful fountain although most stayed in centered around the kitchen island.

Unit 54 – Annual Luke AFB Cookie Drive

This year surpasses last year with our efforts to treat our service members at Luke with a little bit of Christmas baking and buying. I reached out to the ladies in Unit 54 and the ovens started heating, the rolling pins rolling, the dipping, the sprinkling, the mixing, and the powder sugar sugaring. Linda Erkkila brought ginger snaps, nut, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chunk, then Pat Bioncardi tree decorated her sugar cookies, Joette Lookabaugh outdid last year’s supply of biscotti (four different kinds of beautiful dippers – chocolate chip spiced rum; anise almond sambuca; Jack Daniel’s soaked cherry almond; anise seed and sambuca). Cathy Cheek was busy making molasses and peanut blossoms. Oh, my dining table was getting full. Then Patty Klepinger arrived with white chocolate pretzels. Trish Wagner dropped by with snickerdoodles and chocolate chip. Nancy Popenhagen provided three varieties of a bakery kinds. Pat Gray after just returning from out of town immediately got busy with spritz and powder sugar nut balls. Julie Kemper and Barb did their repeat on peanut butter blossoms. Kayrene Braden put some Christmas red and green color to her sugar cookies and Michelle Moskos dropped her bag of spritz at my door for the final result. What a statement of support for our service people away from home.
Thank you each and every one of you bakers and buyers in Unit 54 for supporting the annual Luke AFB Airmen Cookie Drive this year.
Unit 54 Volunteers at St. Mary’s

What a great group of neighbors from Unit 54 on Nov. 12, who literally dove into boxes to sort the good from bad vegetables, fruits, packaged salads, dairy products, frozen meat, and chicken. What could not be given to those in need went to the bin for pig food. Nothing was wasted. There were loads of laughs and good friendship, all while knowing that we did a day’s good work!
