Unit Happenings

Unit 8 August Luncheon

The ladies of Unit 8 met in mid-August at Eagle’s Nest for lunch. They followed the delicious meal with a very competitive game of Mexican train!

Unit 8 September Luncheon

The Unit 8 ladies kicked off the fall by gathering in early September to enjoy the scrumptious food at the Irish Wolfhound. If you live in Unit 8 and would like to join us, please contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected]. We love to meet our neighbors!

Unit 20 ladies luncheon

Carolyn Rota

A big Unit 20 thank you to Norma Klinger and Lynn Johnson for organizing a delicious ladies’ luncheon at Dillons restaurant at the Wildlife World Zoo on Sept. 4. What a wonderful place to enjoy the company of neighbors and friends. We dined with sharks, stingrays, and other aquatic life, and I don’t think anyone ordered fish. But we all had a great time catching up. Thanks again, Lynn and Norma. Until October…

Stay well and travel safely.

Unit 52 ladies luncheon

Liz Gibson

The Ladies Who Lunch from Unit 52 enjoyed a particularly delightful afternoon at Robson Reserve on Aug. 22.

The food and tour that followed were all outstanding. It was great to have such a good turnout with so many residents away for the summer.

Thanks to Social Chair Rhae Jean Magnuson and her committee. They planned another perfect Unit 52 event.

Unit 53 ice cream social

Oh, what fun it was. Mary Faye Manley hosted an old-fashioned ice cream social for the Unit 53 August ladies get together. On Aug. 23, fifteen gals headed over to Mary Faye’s to join their neighbor friends for ice cream sundaes with home-made hot fudge, caramel, and strawberry sauces…all nummy. The two soda jerks, Ken Manley and Michael Stephens, dished up the sundaes and were a hoot in their hats, aprons, and crazy socks. Getting the gals together in homes rather than long tables at a restaurant gives us a chance to mingle more.

Unit 62A activities

The month of August was a hot one, and Unit 62A’s social committee once again gave us plenty to do, both inside and outside! We started the month with an evening bocce ball event, with 24 neighbors honing their skills in some very fun matches. Next, was our St. Mary’s Food Bank volunteer outing, where we packed three large skids worth of boxes of fresh vegetables. We’ve been told that we are the best and fastest group of volunteers that work in the center! That’s not an easy task in a building with no air-conditioning in the summer. A trip to Total Wine gave us a chance to attend a private tasting of ten wines for 28 neighbors. We learned quite a bit about the geography, climate, and soil, as well as the kind of grapes that encompass our favorite wines. And, the tasting was fun, too!

Our men’s breakfast outing was at Mimi’s Café this month, while the ladies had lunch at Grimaldi’s in Peoria. The August pool party focused on a deli day theme, where we all brought various meats, cheeses, breads, and salads as well as toppings and condiments to make a wonderful buffet. We do love to have fun together as a unit and always enjoy our monthly potluck get togethers!

We also had several indoor game gatherings, where we play ladies hand and foot, mixed hand and foot, and mixed Mexican train. Mahjongg, and hand, knee, and foot are also played in our unit with many new neighbors learning these challenging games.

Lake Pleasant was the destination for the rental of pontoon boats and inner tubes and a fun afternoon cruising and playing in the lake. Going on a weekday provided a very relaxing, much less crowded experience for the neighbors and friends from Unit 62A! Another splendid month with the gang on Sheridan Street!

PebbleCreek ladies in Unit 54 enjoyed a day of shopping at Kierland Commons and lunch at the Greene House in Scottsdale on Aug 15.
