Unit Happenings

Unit 20 ladies luncheon at the Reserve

It pays to live in the same neighborhood as Cindy Findley, the Director of Sales and Marketing for the beautiful new Robson Reserve at PebbleCreek. On Wednesday, July 16, Cindy welcomed the Ladies of Unit 20 in Eagle’s Nest to the new dining room of the Robson Reserve, giving them the distinction of being the first outside group to dine in the new facility.

Unit 39 dinner and dancing

Unit 39 enjoyed a night of line dancing and good food at Roman’s Oasis on August 6.

Unit 52 Pool Party

Liz Gibson

More than 25 Unit 52 “summer survivors” enjoyed an evening out at the Oasis Pool on July 25. The Summer Oasis Pool Party, our third group event so far this year, organized by our very active Social Committee headed by Rhae Jean Magnuson, was a potluck and BYOB. The party was a great hit and probably will be repeated next summer.

Our very active Unit has two more functions this year, the annual fall and holiday parties. In addition, the numerous ladies’ luncheons have also brought Unit 52 together on many occasions.

Unit 54 men’s breakfast

Each month during the second week of the month we gather as men from Unit 54 for our breakfast fellowship. Pictured below from left to right are: Richard Cameron, George Nelson, Brad Gray, Jack Klepinger, Pete Schultheiss, Harold Rathman, Randy Cheek, Bobby McCoy, Art Solorio, Steve Braden, Don Berchem, and Jack Fink. We wanted to recognize our two newest neighbors: Don Berchem and Bobby McCoy.

Unit 56 ladies luncheon

Unit 56 is back in the news. With the snowbirds gone we are smaller but we are mighty. On June 21, 11 ladies met at the Lakeside Grill in Estrella for a great lunch.

On August 26, nine ladies met at Saddle Mountain Brewery for a lovely lunch. Good food and lots of laughs.

We are all looking forward to more of our ladies joining us at our next luncheon in September.

Unit 62A – Scottsdale staycation

Barb Downey

Unit 62A once again enjoyed a fabulous month of activities in July. With 11 items on the calendar, our social committee kept us busy during the hot summer month. The Fourth of July was celebrated at our third annual couple’s staycation at The Boulders Resort in Carefree. Fourteen couples spent several days playing golf, enjoying the spa, lounging by the pool, shopping, and relishing wonderful meals at The Grill, The Spotted Donkey, Horney Toad, and First Watch restaurants.

At the end of the month, the ladies had their own special staycation at The Saguaro Scottsdale Resort in Old Town, where twelve of us spent time playing games and chatting by the pool, lots and lots of shopping, and, of course, eating excellent meals at Tommy V’s Urban Kitchen, Yard House, and Bandera. After dinner the first night we enjoyed great music and drinks at the Rusty Spur Saloon and memorable moments at the Grapevine Karaoke Bar, plus a stop for terrific ice cream at the Sugar Bowl! This will undoubtedly be an annual event celebrating our wonderful friendships and fun times together!

The men of 62A had their monthly breakfast outing at Ground Control in Litchfield Park, while the ladies lunched at Tommy Bahama after a tour of Cosanti in Paradise Valley. Cosanti is a designated Arizona historic site where, in addition to the distinctive terraced landscape and earth formed concrete structures, it’s known for its production of unique sculptural wind-bells in either bronze or ceramic.

Nearly fifty of our neighbors gathered at the Oasis Pool for our monthly pool party and buffet. This month was a Mexican theme, where we all brought toppings and side dishes for tacos, tortillas, and salads along with some wonderful desserts. We enjoyed plenty of pool time, eating, and socializing, as well as making wonderful memories with our friends.

Our usual volunteer morning at St. Mary’s Food Bank, Hand and Foot games, Mexican Train games, and PebbleCreek TV Dinner games rounded out the month. With only 47 homes in our unit, we may be one of the smallest, but due to our talented and dedicated social committee, we are probably one of the busiest and most fun groups you’ll ever find!
