Unit 3
Carole Rausch
For a time Unit 3 was a slumbering giant,
Content, but rather quiet.
Then new folks moved in
Who were welcomed with a happy grin.
Residents greeted them with open arms,
Showing off PebbleCreek’s many charms.
Jan Stash got us together, and we decided it’s time
To bring our unit into its party prime.
A bunch of us with Carolyn Suttles’ guidance
Formed what we call an activity alliance.
We planned a breakfast right here at Eagle’s Nest
Attended by 30 gals of Unit 3’s best!
A wonderful time was had by all.
Now we’ve got parties planned into the fall.
May 23 is next when we’ll all be together
For a lovely yard party to enjoy the weather.
In the waning days of September on the 25th,
We’ll splash in the pool, and each bring a dish.
December 13 will be a great reason
For us to celebrate the holiday season.
The Chianti Room will be the venue
To delight in friendship and enjoy the menu.
Gee, I’m lucky to have found a home in Unit 3.
It is just the perfect place for me and thee!
Unit 8
Shawnee Robison
Tuesday, March 26, 2018, was a blustery, but beautiful, sunny afternoon when 21 Unit 8 members, including four men, made their way to their seats in the Estrella Estates dining room.
After selecting a beef or chicken entre accompanied by yummy sides and dessert, they all got caught up on the latest and celebrated the great day and the lasting friendships they’ve formed in Unit 8!
Unit 17
The Unit 17 block party was held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, on Verde Lane in Eagle’s Nest. The party was a huge success, with eighty people in attendance. Two mixer games started off the party so everyone could get to know their neighbors. Everyone brought salads, desserts and other delicious side dishes. The weather was absolutely magnificent and the conversations were even better. Prizes were awarded to those who have lived in PebbleCreek the longest and the shortest periods of time. Believe it or not, the newest resident moved in the day before the party. Winners were awarded a bottle of wine.
A welcome back party will be held on November 11, 2018 for returning snowbirds and permanent residents to give everyone an opportunity to get reacquainted. Put it on your calendar; a reminder notice will be sent out in the fall. It will be a potluck at Sunrise Park with fun games, such as bocce ball and horseshoes. This is a free-for-all party, with no formal organization planned, but if you have suggestions, they are always welcome. If you have questions, you may contact Alice Dice at 720-273-7634 or send an email to [email protected].
Thanks to the following couples for organizing this year’s Unit 17 party: Brett and Susan Mackey, Mike and Ruth Topp, Terry and Georganna Cavanaugh and Bruce and Alice Dice.
Unit 51 Ladies Luncheons
Janet Miazga
Our April Ladies’ Luncheon found us gathered at Bella Luna Ristorante on Indian School Road. Hosted by Lynn Lucas, fifteen lovely ladies enjoyed delicious Italian cuisine while having fun just gathering together, as always. We welcomed one of our newest neighbors, Sue Burkhardt, to her first unit event—hopefully she liked joining us. We also said goodbye to those who will be leaving before our next luncheon in May, wishing them all a very happy summer!

What a beautiful spring Sunday to partake in an outing on Lake Mead! Twenty-three neighbors from Unit 51 made the short drive north on April 8 to be entertained by a refreshing boat ride on “The Phoenix.” The tour guide/captain informed us of the various plant and animal life on the hills around the lake, as well as surprised us with some Arizona history we may not have known. We all enjoyed mingling with our friends over cold beverages and popcorn, while relaxing in a perfect setting on another perfect AZ afternoon!
Unit 52
Liz Gibson
More than 50 Unit 52 ladies enjoyed cocktails and lots of chatter Thursday evening March 29 around the pool at the home of Meg and Ed Chrisman.
The BYOB event was great fun with many new residents as well as “10-yearers” mingling and enjoying the lavish and outstanding hors d’oeuvres which everyone brought.
Many thanks are due to the graciousness of the Chrismans for providing seating and tables for all and overseeing the whole party. A special commendation to Ed for his help throughout.
It was a very memorable and festive evening.
Unit 53
Sandy Stephens
Pat Marinelli and Kathy Haynes hosted the Unit 53 luncheon at P.F. Changs on McDowell April 11 for 27 gals who continue to enjoy the growing friendships they have in Unit 53. We all wanted to bid farewell to the surprisingly fewer than expected last of the snow birds who will leave us for the summer and greet the newcomers to our unit. Our one waiter did a commendable job taking care of the group. As our unit continues to grow so does the opportunity to welcome and enjoy the company of new friends to our close-knit unit of people who support each other.
Unit 54
Barbara Dunson
Residents from our growing Unit 54 enjoyed each other’s company during a potluck on St. Patrick’s Day at the Oasis Pool Complex. Music entertainment and lawn games gave people a chance to mingle first before enjoying food brought for sharing. Hosts were Pat Gray, Cindy and Mike Hurst, Barb Dunson and Steve Domholt.
Unit 58
Approximately 40 members of Unit 58 gathered at the home of Curtis and Joan Patchin to enjoy the weather, appetizers and conversation on Thursday, March 15. Beautiful weather and a great turn out of new and old friends made for a wonderful evening.
The ladies of Unit 58 held their March luncheon at Eagle’s Nest on Thursday, March 22. Hosted by Lynn Jacobson, approximately 25 ladies attended. March luncheon hostess will be Nancy DeBrincat.
Unit 62A
Barb Downey
March was another month of fun activities for Unit 62A! Our monthly Women’s Lunch, Men’s Breakfast and Women’s Coffee were well attended and welcomed several new residents. Forty-four neighbors attended a LA Angels vs. Cleveland Indians game at the Goodyear Ballpark, where we were delighted with the entire Terrace, behind home plate, for our own private party! The game, the amazing food and the wonderful comradery made this a spectacular event!
Our monthly Happy Hour was a March Madness party, hosted by Mike and Patti Trapp with 37 of our neighbors attending. Along with the delicious food (and beverages!) we celebrated the Final Four NCAA Basketball Championship with an appropriately themed game, identifying the 64 team logos. The winners were Gary Bomar and Tom Bachman with 55 of the 64 teams correct! We also celebrated the birthdays of Kim Ebert and Marilyn Newcomer as well as the 49th Anniversary of Mike and LaVonne Christensen.
Unit 62A is proud of our many athletes, who have done quite well in PebbleCreek sporting events. Our softball winners are Tom Bachman (Tournament Champion team and 2nd place for the season), Vic Coates (Tournament 2nd place and 4th place for the season) and Ellie Love (tournament quarterfinals and 3rd place for the season.) Ellie is also one of only five women who play in the softball league!
We have quite a few pickleball players in 62A, but a couple have outstanding performances in the recent Club Championships! Kim Ebert won gold in 4.0 women’s doubles, while Lynn Banks won gold in 3.0 women’s doubles as well as silver in the 3.0 mixed doubles.
Our tournament golfers Mike Christensen and John McCrickard finished in 3rd place in their flight, while Tom MacKenzie finished 5th in his flight!
We finished the month of March with a very fun and challenging outing! Twenty-four of us, with a bit of trepidation, ventured to the Escape Phoenix venue for an hour of intense clue finding, puzzle solving, and teamwork challenge! Each of the four different rooms had six people to work together to solve the tasks in order to “escape” the room. Only one team managed to beat the clock and solve their challenging situation, but we all had a great time getting to know one another even better and an even better time at the dinner that followed! We’re all looking forward to next month, and to meeting new neighbors as they move in or start their building process in this fabulous unit!
