Unit 23 Halloween Party
Lynn Matousek
Neighbors and friends of the residents of the 149th Lane cul-de-sac in Unit 23 of Eagle’s Nest had their second annual Halloween Party on October 31. Fun neighbors, great costumes, appetizers and crazy games. What more do you need to make a Halloween party a success?
Unit 27 gets cool
Camille Grabb
Whew! The temperature finally dropped below three digits! Unit 27A decided it was time to celebrate with a Cooling Down party!
Neighbors (55 of them!) gathered on October 30 between the Schmidt and Grabb patios on the Palms third hole to welcome everyone back outside from their air-conditioned houses and many summer journeys in search of cooler weather around the country. It was a great chance to check back in with each other and even welcome some new neighbors who moved in during the summer.
The no-fuss pizza and salad menu with yummy cookies for dessert kept the gathering simple so that everyone had time to trade summer stories with each other. Marilyn Cabral’s annual drawing for “the best prizes available from the dollar store,” was another great hit this year! After covering the costs, leftover funds collected from the neighbors were donated to the PC Pet Companion Club.
Yep, the new season has officially started in Unit 27A!
Unit 43B Doggies Treat Neighbors
Susan Knox Wilson
It wasn’t very spooky or the least bit scary, but it was fun and adorable! The Villas first Halloween Paws on Parade had neighbors dressing up their furry friends for a costumed stroll around the neighborhood.
The juried event ended in front of organizer Diane Mattukat’s Villa on the Piccadilly Walk of Fame where a Best Costume gift basket prize was awarded. The basket included treats for the winning contestant and a special gift certificate for the owner, compliments of Elements Massage. Diane and her sister, Valerie Glaser, served as judges for the event.
Unit 51 – Oct. Ladies Luncheon
Janet Miazga
It was a nice gathering of Unit 51 ladies at P.F. Chang’s for our October luncheon, which was hosted by Lori Rea. So good to see some gals who had been away for the summer, as well as get to know two of our newest neighbors – Judy Floyd and Patti McEnerney. Tales of our summer adventures as well as good food and laughter were shared by all. Unit 51 neighbors are now looking forward to their annual Holiday Party in December.
Unit 51 – Nov. Ladies Luncheon
Carol Adkins
On November 10 seventeen Unit 51 ladies met at Fiesta Mexicana for a wonderful lunch and lively conversation. Many thanks to our hosts Sandee Matteucci and Pam Harper for arranging the event. Everyone is looking forward to our annual Pajama Drive to benefit children in the foster care system and our Unit 51 Holiday Party in the Chianti Room on December 9!
Unit 51 Fall Event
Carol Adkins
On Saturday, November 4, Unit 51 held their Fall Event. Janet (our Unit CEO — Chief Entertainment Officer) and Dennis Miazga graciously hosted the event at their lovely home. Sixty-three neighbors attended and provided a fabulous array of appetizers and desserts. The weather was perfect for mingling on the patio, meeting new neighbors, catching up with snowbirds and playing some interactive games that helped us get better acquainted. Special thanks to Bevy and Jack Hogan and Vicki and Dennis Carter for providing additional seating.
Unit 52 – Ladies Lunch
Liz Gibson
Some of the Ladies Who Lunch of Unit 52 enjoyed a fun get-together and wonderful lunch on Wednesday, November 9. Hosted by Nancy Rosenfeld, the venue was the always popular BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse and it turned into one of our longer lunches with a lot of chatter about current and upcoming events.
Unit 52 will have a Trivia Party on Sunday, November 13 in the Chianti Room in Tuscany Falls, a new addition to our busy party schedule which has received an enthusiastic response. We’re back in the Chianti Room on Sunday, December 4 for our annual Holiday Party which has always been a great way to set the mood for the season.
Unit 53 Happy Hour
Sandy Stephens
Larry and Jane Eidt hosted our Unit 53 October Happy Hour, Friday, October 14 at their Tuscany home. Thank goodness they have a large patio area which now with the addition of an equally large pergola cover is perfect for sitting outside because they had 43 guests most of which were outside enjoying the lovely fall weather. The pergola was covered in little white lights that looked so pretty after dusk. Everyone brought a munchie to share and got to play catch up with their neighbor friends. The night ended too quickly.
Unit 53 October Luncheon

Carolyn Curley and Gayle Galarneau hosted our Unit 53 October Luncheon Monday, October 17 at Tempo Urban Bistro and Coffee Bar. The restaurant is on Main Street in Buckeye but we think of it as Verrado. We had one server who worked hard to get us all served and keep us happy. We ate inside the restaurant; however, it opened up onto a patio with other customers taking advantage of the perfect weather. Pictured are Carolyn Curley, Gayle Galarneau, Karen Knadler, Susan Donlan, Susan Jackson, Deb Hehnke, Ann Orr, Brenda Rollogas, Joanie Amet, JoAnne Braun, Marilyn Azzarello, Jane Eidt, Janet Valentini, Virginia Warden, Deb Smedley and Rosemary Holland. Unit 58 – Thirsty Thursday
Susan Jackson
Unit 58 held a Thirsty Thursday get together at the home of Jon and Susan Jackson on October 20. Food, fun and fellowship were enjoyed by all in attendance. Next month’s cocktail party hosts will be Lynn Jacobsen and Ed (don’t know Ed’s last name!). Stay tuned for an email announcement which will be sent to all Unit 58 members announcing the specific date and time for next month’s gathering.
Unit 61 Gives Back
Kathy Gorchesky
Unit 61 had a Halloween Block Party with 81 costumed neighbors in attendance. A lion, goblins and PebbleCreek Ryan Lochte were spotted that evening. The street party was hosted outside in front of John and Barb Staupe’s house. Judy Dawson, Barb Staupe, Geri Mantucca and Sue Sink were the organizers. This fabulous party was sponsored in part by generous donations from AZ Royal and Anasazi Pools. Delicious food, fun games, prizes, candy and many laughs were enjoyed by all. Each neighbor brought candy to share and we had 20.5 pounds of leftover candy. This candy was donated to Candy for the Troops. The remaining snacks were donated to the Goodyear Fire Department.
Unit 61 and friends gave back to the community by volunteering at St. Mary’s Food Bank Kids Cafe Assembly. Volunteers spent one morning creating 5000 cold meals in an assembly line fashion. It took 15 plus volunteers three hours to create these meals. They are then sent to afterschool programs around the valley for children in need.
Our fun unit and friends are looking forward to more opportunities to give back to our surrounding community.
