Unit Happenings

Unit 19

Barbara Risden and Donna Frole

Unit 19 had a few things going on over the past few months. Since everyone loves to eat, we got together for breakfast at the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant on January 27, lunch at the restaurant on February 17, a wine tasting event at Total Wine on March 30 and a pool party at the Eagle’s Nest pool on June 13. We had a good turnout for all the events, had fun and got to meet some of our neighbors who joined us for their first time.

Our next event will be later in the year with more information to come at a later date.

Unit 61

Kathy Gorchesky

Unit 61 held an ice cream social to cool off during a hot summer evening. Over 50 neighbors brought their favorite ice cream toppings to Kris and Chuck Gillum’s home. Kris and Chuck supplied the ice cream and creative ice cream beverages to sip throughout this pleasurable evening.

As a Unit 61 social something several attended the Phoenix Art Museum for a docent guided tour of the 50 Years of Fashion followed by an enjoyable lunch.

The game of Bunco has been added as another social event for this busy Unit. Thirty-two women and men had a lively time with lots of laughs.

Unit 53

Sandy Stephens

What a great turn-out we had for Michael and Sandy’s hosted June Happy Hour given that it is summer and so many of our neighbor friends have left until temperatures come down. As our unit is growing so are the numbers of people who come to our Unit 53 Happy Hours. We somehow fit everyone in our homes and have a great time together eating and catching up with what’s happening in our lives.

Our Unit 53 June luncheon at the Verrado Country Club Grill was a hit. It is a lovely place to have lunch with loads of ambience! The food was excellent, service outstanding and soft music was playing which gave us gals a chance to chat. It’s a cozy restaurant offering booths, lovely décor and that day just the right amount of air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year. The 13 gals enjoying lunch have become close and enjoy each other’s company. Sandy Stephens hosted the luncheon; however, Karen Knadler did any work involved in the planning. We were joined by Gayle Galarneau, Rosemary Holland, Carol Sanders (our newest neighbor), Pat Marinelli, Brenda Rollogas, Joanne Burch, Carolyn Curley, Sue Jackson (from Unit 58 who adopted our unit since her sister lives in Unit 53), Joanie Amet, Ann Orr and JoAnne Braun. Geri Zuvich was a no-show deciding she wanted to remain in Sedona to escape the heat.
