Turkey Shoot Mixed Doubles Tournament and Food Drive

Participants playing in the Nov. 13 Turkey Shoot.

On Nov. 13, our tournament director, Aquine Jackson, coordinated a Turkey Shoot tournament, along with a canned food drive to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank.

As luck would have it, the day was bright, the temperature perfect, and the newly resurfaced courts were ready for intense action. There were 14 teams competing for prizes ranging from a Tuscano’s gift card to PebbleCreek gift cards. Each team played six games for each match with, if necessary, single play a single deuce to decide any tied matches. Afterwards, the players were treated to a luncheon supplied by our social director. Joan Patchin. As always, Joan had ample sandwiches, chips, condiments, beverages, and tasty desserts for the hungry players. The luncheon was followed by the awards ceremony, where the winners of each flight received their gift cards.

The winners were:

* Flight 1: Eric Smith and Barbara Camozzi

* Flight 2: Randy and Mary McConaughey

* Flight 3: David and Shelly Bain

* Flight 4: John Angus and Lauren Leonard

It was requested that each participant bring canned goods for the St. Mary’s Food Bank. The participation and generosity of the players was astounding. For each canned good donated, a raffle ticket was given; Vikki and Keith Constable won the raffle and received a gift card. Their donation, however, was quite bountiful. A big thank you to all Tennis Club members who donated during the event and at the boxes placed at the huts at Eagle’s Nest, as well as Tuscany. Our president, Shelley Bain, delivered the food just before Thanksgiving to the pantry, with approximately 300 pounds of food donated.
