Traditional Christmas Potluck continues with new management

Jim Roberts

102 PebbleCreekers, staying at home in PebbleCreek Christmas Day, showed up for the annual Christmas Potluck, a tradition nearly as old as the community itself. Jane Cook did a superlative job of managing the potluck for 23 years before retiring last year. Susan Fallon, with exceptional assistance from hubby, Pat, stepped into the very large shoes and did a bang-up job. With help from Laurie Overson, Master of Ceremonies Extraordinaire, we not only had a great potluck dinner, but raised $515 for the Homeless Youth Coalition, and $340 for St. Mary’s Food Bank. Christmas musical entertainment was provided by the Gene-Howard Acoustic Guitar Duo, and all 12 tables of folks who sang The 12 Days of Christmas. Our Table 8 was “8 Maids A Milking,” and we all pretended to be milking cows as we sang.

In honor of Potluck Director Susan, Pat, the Volunteers, the Gene-Howard Duo and the PebbleCreek Community Members who came and brought a pot for the potluck and sang the Christmas carols, the following poem has been created.

New Potluck for Creekers at Christmas

Poetry by “Deak of PebbleCreek,” December 27, 2017

All was still in PebbleCreek

It was Christmas Day and nary a peep

For most had gone to be with their loved ones you see

But not all could go from PebbleCreek

But there was a tradition within the walls

For those stuck at home with only phone calls

They would gather at Eagle’s Nest to dine with all the rest

An event most would say “enthralls”

The event ran for many years under Jane Cook

Who set the standard since she wrote the book

Susan Fallon now has the reins and will follow that book of Jane’s

With hubby Pat they will manage what Creekers cook

Cook for the 24th annual Potluck Dinner

For those that remain in PebbleCreek it’s a winner

Everyone signs up to bring whatever is their favorite thing

And rest assured none of it will make you thinner

MC Laurie Overson was great, and we collected $3.00 per person

In addition to Hams & Turkeys, the money was for a reason

Tips for employee prosperities and some for a couple of charities

Because giving is just part of the Season

Donations went to Mary’s Food Bank and Homeless Youth

Both excellent causes and that’s the truth

The dinner went well and all was swell

And everyone had a wonderful time forsooth

Live music was provided by Howard and Gene

Broadbeck and Fioretti are a wonderful team

They played Christmas songs that we could sing along

The tables singing Twelve Days of Christmas was a scream

The foods were great and all had a good time

Susan and Pat did a job that was sublime

The Volunteers were great making sure everybody ate

And until next Potluck time it’s time to run out of Rhyme

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
