The COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many events in our lives, and the annual PebbleCreek Home & Garden Tour was no exception. The tour committee knew by the end of March that the traditional PebbleCreek home tour was not going to happen, even though five homeowners had generously agreed to have their homes on the tour, pre-COVID that is! We started thinking about alternative ways to raise money for the Goodyear Shop with a Cop program. It’s a wonderful program, and this is the 24th year for the home tour fundraising project.

The home tour committee of four, Wally Campbell, Charlotte Krause, Barbara Hockert, and Suzanne Butler, met in late April to brainstorm ideas for a fundraising event in lieu of the annual home tour. Charlotte brought up the idea of the Tour de Eagle’s Nest, since the course would be nearing completion in the fall when the Home & Garden Tour is normally held. There was much coordination and approvals needed from Robson and PC Golf staff, but by late summer all approvals were in place and major plans formulated for the new Tour de Eagle’s Nest.

Since this was a totally new venue, it wasn’t clear how well received this event would be. Thanks to the wonderful support of the PebbleCreek community, the Tour de Eagle’s Nest was a great success. Thank you to the wonderful PebbleCreek residents for supporting this event through ticket purchases, donations, and volunteering. There were 300 residents who took the tour and approximately 80 volunteers who helped on the tour. All this was done with carefully planned and administered COVID-19 protocols.

We are so pleased to say we exceeded our expectations by raising over $11,500 for Shop with a Cop this year! All proceeds are passed on to the Goodyear Police Department for the Shop with a Cop program to help needy children from the Goodyear community. Each child is escorted by a member of the police department to shop at the Walmart on Estrella Parkway. The children are always excited and grateful for the gifts they can purchase, not only for themselves, but for other members of their family. It is truly a heartwarming event.
