July 13 was the date for our annual school supply drive. Our pickleball club appreciates the opportunity to support the local schools in the Goodyear area. This year, supplies, gift cards, and cash donations were gathered for Arizona Desert Elementary School. Thanks to everyone who gave and to those who turned out to the official “get–together.”
The following was posted by PebbleCreek resident and teacher, Kim Corbel.
“PebbleCreek Pickleball Club players do a lot more than just play pickleball. When Kathy Delaney contacted me and said that the club wanted to have a fundraiser for the students at Arizona Desert Elementary School, I was speechless. We are a Title 1 school, and the majority of our students are living in poverty and can’t afford the basic necessities. The AZD staff was blown away by the generosity of this club. They loved getting to meet so many of you and they were even willing to try out the game of pickleball. The club members were so generous and as a result our students will have the necessary school supplies to start off the school year. Thank you to everyone that made this happen.”
More Happenings!
A new wall (aka practice wall) has been built at the north courts. Club members are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to practice their skills in cooler weather conditions.
The shade is happening at the new north courts! Many thanks to Marty Braden and his hardworking crew!
A big shout out to the cleanup crews. A big Haboob hit, and work crews were out in full force on the morning of July 22. There wasn’t any hitch in the play. Too bad the work crews didn’t come home with me to clean the mess at my house!
Upcoming Event!
A rating meeting is scheduled for Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. in the Chianti Room. Members are invited to come to listen to the rating committee’s plan for this year. The committee will also talk about the pilot that will be conducted in September, starting Sept. 9.
