February was truly an experience of the art of good tasting and eating Italian style. The month began with 25 club members enjoying a wine tasting at Total Wines, featuring nine wines from Europe. Additional wine tastings will be considered. Then the business club meeting was topped off with a Festa di Cioccolato. It was a chocolate lovers dream come true. There were fruits, nuts, cookies and candies all covered in a variety of chocolate. Thursday, February 12 many club members enjoyed this month’s Dining Out at BJs in Park West. The club thanks Kathy and Rich Veleta for planning this day. Sunday, February 22 was another wonderful dining experience with the regional cooking Italian experience Pranzo. The Eagle’s Nest Ballroom was festively decorated with the Italian colors and the tables of Italian appetizers, antipasto, breads, soups, salads, entrees and desserts were all amazing and homemade. Again this year, this day highlighted the love of the Italian foods, family and friends around the table. There was a wonderful surprise with club member Gene Fioretti providing a pasta demonstration. A break was taken after enjoying the antipasto and entrees. Members and guests enjoyed a little music, a game and time for some great conversation. Some of the conversation focused on the recent PBS Special The Italian Americans. Similar family experiences were shared.
The club is plaude Marzo (welcoming March) with several events. The business meeting on March 11, 2015, will be this year’s election of new board members. Following this and the other business items, an Andiamo (Let’s Go) event will occur at the home of club members Bob and Barbara Spano. Club members will then celebrate the tradition of St. Joseph’s Day on March 19, 2015, (St. Joseph’s actual feast day). Donations of food items and/or cash will be accepted and given to The Aqua Fria Foodbank. March would not be complete without its Dining Out event. Millie Baumgardt is planning this Italian flavored event on March 26, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the Macaroni Grill on Litchfield Road.
The annual Day at the Races event is planned for Monday, April 13, 2015. Joe Lupo is the chairperson. Joe has extended invitations to the PC Irish American Club, the Bocce Club and the Shalom Club.
