In the large display case outside the Quail Room in the Creative Arts and Crafts building, there are several carved eagles displayed in front of the World War I Patriot Quilt. This quilt honors the 100th year anniversary of the entrance of the United States into World War I. This quilt recognizes those who served in this The Great War. This quilt is titled Where Poppies Grow, following the series of published blocks in the 2014 Kansas City Star. This Patriot quilt was made by the PebbleCreek Quilters with co-chairs Jan Johnson and Erma Taylor.
The three larger Bald Eagles in front of the quilt were carved by Joel Hawkins, Chuck Schuldt and Gerald Findley. The smaller Bald Eagles, Native American Eagle Mask and Kachinas below the quilt were carved by Tom Wick, Jim Taylor, Jeannette McElroy and Joel Hawkins.
Let’s salute this great effort and beautiful display!
