ShowTime’s fall production, The Beat Goes On, is a celebration of some of your favorite Kennedy Center Honorees including Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Carol Burnett. But what does it mean to be a Kennedy Center Honoree?
While the Oscars celebrate the best movies in a single year and the Grammys applaud the most outstanding singers and musicians over a 12-month period, the Kennedy Center Honors are a lifetime achievement award. Designed to honor actors, singers, dancers, filmmakers, etc. who have made a significant contribution to American culture, the recipients are not only exceptional artists but have had a personal impact on their communities.
The award that the honorees receive is also different from the Oscar and Grammy trophies. The rainbow-colored ribbon given to each honoree is designed to be worn as a symbol of the “spectrum of the many skills within the performing arts,” according to Ivan Chermayeff, who created the distinctive decoration in 1978.
The Beat Goes On will also be different from other ShowTime musical revues. Instead of focusing on one genre of music such as rock ‘n’ roll or country, this show will cover a range of styles from country to opera and almost everything in between. Director Chanca Morrell says this is possible because as PebbleCreek has grown, so has the number of talented residents.
The Beat Goes On runs from Monday, Nov. 14 through Saturday, Nov. 19, but tickets go on sale this month, on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 8 a.m., both online and in the Renaissance Theater lobby.
To purchase online, go to the HOA website at www.pebblecreekhoa.org. Click on “Things to Do” at the top of the page and then scroll down to “Ticket Sales.” About half way down the “Ticket Sales” page, you will find the link for purchasing The Beat Goes On tickets. No login password is needed. VISA and MasterCard are accepted.
There will be only one day when tickets will be sold in person, on Saturday, Oct. 15, 8 to 10 a.m., in the theater lobby. After that, call or email Jill Santy at 406-781-6177 or [email protected], and she will be able to help you with your purchase over the phone.
All tickets are $16.50 each, which includes the service fees, and there is no limit to the number of tickets that you may purchase.
Using music, dance, comedy, and more, The Beat Goes On will showcase the best of American performing arts culture. And just like at the Kennedy Center Honors annual celebration, there will be outstanding performances by PebbleCreek’s own talented residents as they honor these legendary artists. This is one production that you do not want to miss.
