Charlie Reinert has been leading the Amigos tennis group for several years. He shared with me the beginnings of this amazing group of dedicated he-man tennis players.

The group started in 2011 organized by Ray Catalan, Steve Owens, Will Smith, Tom Reed, and Charlie. The group slowly grew in players and brought a need for more days of play. The group had no name, but with the close-knit camaraderie, the wife of Steve Owens, Pat, suggested the name “Amigos” and by an overwhelming majority vote the name was adopted.

Here are some thoughts from Steve Owens, said many years ago, that are still relevant today: “Amigos are special, for sure, and I am happy to be a part of this great group of guys … I am looking forward to continuing our good times together. Charlie and Will have proven to be thoughtful and considerate. We always want everybody to play competitive tennis as well as enjoy their time on the courts.”

Pictures provided by Pat Owens and Charlie Reinert are from events years ago … let us remember the fun times with those who are still with us and those who have gone on to other destinations.
