Susie Anderson
The tennis board members serve two years. This December will be the end of Maggie Eggleston’s term as treasurer. I interviewed her and this is what she has to say:
“I moved to Arizona in 1977 and worked for APS for 32 years. I came to PebbleCreek in 2004 but didn’t start playing tennis until after I retired in 2009. Dave Kersey gave me tennis lessons and I played in the Thursday night group under the lights and was hooked! Three years ago I joined the Ace Girls tennis team and enjoy playing against teams from other communities. This year I am co-captain of our team and hope to help us improve our ranking! Two years ago I decided it was my turn to give back to the tennis club since it had been so good to me and my husband. I believe we all have a responsibility to give back. That’s what makes our club strong. I’d rather play tennis than watch it on TV, but do admire the Williams sisters who are a force to be reckoned with on and off the court, with physical talent and good business sense. Serving on the Tennis Club board has been has been a fun two years but now it’s someone else’s turn. I encourage you to give it a shot. See you on the courts!”
There are five PebbleCreek Women’s teams that compete with other teams outside PebbleCreek and numerous organized groups that play within PebbleCreek. In the fall we hope to restart a weekly women’s drop-in that is as busy and popular as the men’s drop-in. Contact Diana Chimicles to sign up and play on Wednesdays at Eagle’s Nest from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.
One special ladies’ group is the unnamed Monday/Wednesday/Saturday group that plays three times a week all year long. This friendly doubles mixer started about 10 years ago. We still have two of the original members who are still going strong. We all hope to play into our 80’s and beyond if our joints hold out. I started as a sub and joined two and a half years ago. I am finding out that our members love to travel so we have invited nearly 35 ladies to sub with us, which is good because we have become predictable! The camaraderie of our group has helped us through many of life’s ups and downs. We play hard as we start the day with a healthy dose of exercise and many laughs as we play.
Check the website www.pebblecreektennis.com for the social/mixer/tournament in October and other for all tennis information. You may contact any of the board members with questions by phone or email listed on website too. New member sign-up forms are on white board in Tuscany Tennis building. Save the date: December 16 for our Holiday Dinner Dance.
