On Friday, April 26, there was a summer recruitment meeting at the Palm Room in Eagle’s Nest. We had many interested people attend; however, there are never enough volunteers to do all we like to do for the moms and children at New Life Center.
You have probably all heard about the good that Caring Friends does to help the abused moms and children at New Life Center, a shelter for abused women and children here in Goodyear. We take food to supplement their main meal every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We also decorate a casita (a little home where the individual families live during their stay at New Life Center) a few times a year. Our large group of volunteers take turns volunteering usually once or twice a month for just 1.5 hours. It is amazing the good we do and the good feelings we receive in such a small amount of time! And we need both men and women as the children need good role models, both male and female. Many of our volunteers are snowbirds and, of course, with the summer right around the corner, we need to recruit new volunteers to help out and continue bringing some joy and happiness into their lives. We also take coloring books, crayons, books, puzzles, etc. (usually from the Dollar Store) and spend time with the children which they love. They enjoy the love and nurturing we give them and they give us hugs in return.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, please contact Susan Allen at [email protected], Donna Aybar at [email protected], Sharon Passaro at [email protected], Jo Ann Stansell at [email protected] or Ed and Barb Lavin at [email protected]. They are the leaders and will give you information and help you get started.
