Some things like fine wine and the PebbleCreek Singles Club just get better with age! Once known as the PebbleCreek Solos, its fledgling membership of about two dozen has burgeoned to over 160 single men and women in the 17 years since its first meeting on September 21, 1997. Today PC Singles is one of the most vibrant, fun loving social organizations in the community. Members meet monthly in the ballroom of Tuscany Falls Clubhouse where on Sunday, September 7 they will gather to celebrate the club’s successful 17 year history.

One of the group’s founders, Jane Holdcroft, remembers the early years well and is delighted with the way the club has blossomed over the years.

“I believe there definitely is a need for our club. It provides a wonderful opportunity for single people to meet and form friendships and to participate as a group in the many activities and events that are held in PebbleCreek,” says Jane. Anna-Marie Petrie is the only other member of the original group still active in the club. She says that being a member of the Singles Club makes her feel like she has “an extended family whose members are there for each other in good times and bad.”

A special anniversary cake has been ordered and members are encouraged to come out to the September meeting to join in celebrating another banner year for the club.

Doors open at 2:15 p.m. to accommodate new member registration. Sign up for upcoming activities and events begins at 2:30 p.m. and President Judy Shaffer will preside over the formal meeting at 3:00 p.m.

In addition to its active social agenda the PC Singles supports charitable endeavors in the community. Earlier this year the club’s Board of Directors unveiled plans for an ambitious fundraising campaign to benefit the Homeless Youth Connection. A goal of $2000 was set. As of last month the club had raised $1800 toward funding the HYC’s SEED (Social, Emotional, Educational Development for Success) Program. Between now and December tax deductible donations will continue to be accepted by check only made out directly to the HYC and given or sent to Treasurer Anita Asp at 3151 N. 159th Drive.

Membership in the club is open to all single residents of PebbleCreek, owners and renters. Activities Director Peggy Kuffner reports that upcoming activities and events include a trip to the Arizona Culinary Institute DuJour Restaurant on September 4, Happy Hour at PF Chang’s on September 25, Octoberfest on October 25 and a Cowboy Cookout at Estrella Mountain Park on November 1. Also on the calendar for September are Movie Night on September 3, Summer Cooler Swim Parties on September 5 and 26, Pictionary on September 8, Game Night on September 19, Brunch and Movie on September 21 and Singles at Karaoke on September 24.

In addition to volunteers previously recognized in the PebbleCreek Post, the Board of Directors would like to thank Rosemary DeAngelo for sending out cards to remember birthdays and Elizabeth Stelton for assisting in less joyous times.
