Singles Club members spring into action for annual Amazing Race Competition

Pat Milich

The annual Amazing Race has become a highly anticipated rite of spring for adventuresome members of the PebbleCreek Singles Club. With prize money on the line, multiple teams of four race around the West Valley deciphering cryptic clues given to them in marked envelopes, all the while navigating themselves in sometimes unfamiliar territory and interacting with total strangers in a quest to be the first to arrive at a final destination.

This year’s event, held on April 10, had participants visiting Verrado High School to identify the color of the football team’s goal post, Goodyear Park to count the number of green rocks on the climbing wall, and the At Home Store in Peoria to record the word that appears on the wall above the small area rug department. The final clue required nimble fingers to assemble a paper puzzle that when completed, revealed the name Café Zupa, a popular restaurant in Avondale. It was there that the race’s organizers were waiting to collect each team’s clue packet, tally the scores and announce the winners.

Congratulations to the 2018 Amazing Race winning team of Frank Rodgers, Carroll Brahm, Therese Kirklys and Adriana Greisman. And, a very special thank you to volunteers extraordinaire Diane Staff, the event host, and Yolany Marsan, co-host. Diane has been creating and organizing the Amazing Race for five years and each year the event becomes more mentally challenging and more fun!
