A reminder that auditions for ShowTime’s fall production, A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol, are coming up in a few weeks.
A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol is a musical twist on the classic Dickens tale. The story takes place on Christmas Eve 1943 and a group of radio actors is preparing a live broadcast of their own version of “A Christmas Carol.” But the challenges of broadcasting from a tiny run-down radio station in Newark, N.J., with its noisy plumbing and electrical blackouts, and bringing in an aging Broadway actor who has never performed on radio threaten to derail their presentation. Can they overcome the chaos and mayhem? Will it be anything like the story written by Charles Dickens more than 100 years ago?
A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol will run six nights from Monday, Nov. 18 through Saturday, Nov. 23, with all performances in the Renaissance Theater at 7 p.m. However, auditions are coming up this month, on Wednesday, April 17 in the Renaissance Theater, 5 to 8 p.m., and on Friday, April 19 in the Renaissance Theater, 3 to 6 p.m. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 10.
There are 12 speaking parts, several of which do not require singing, plus eight ensemble singers.

Laughter, chaos, heartbreak, and hope, plus some jazzy 1940’s style songs and traditional Christmas carols, A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol will be a reminder of the spirit of the season. The only piece missing is you.
