‘Shoot ‘em Up’ Pistol Competition

Arty and Steve Bartlett, Club Co-Directors

What a beautiful day it was for the ‘Shoot ‘em Up’ Pistol Competition on the Public Range at Joe Foss! We can’t say enough good things about the staff and RSO’s at the JF range. They know we are there every first and third Friday morning and they reserve the entire right side of the range just for our club. That Friday we actually overflowed past the middle because there were so many of us. They treat us well, and we are enjoying it!

Our fearless Co-Director Steve headed up this event and did a fabulous job with the help of George Bulfon, Jerry Younker, and Dan Borchers. Thank you all for a smooth event and cash payouts!

We had some great scores and some brand-spankin-new members who decided to just jump into the deep end and try it out. Kudos to all of you. You did great!

It was really good to see some faces we haven’t seen in a while come back for the sunny winter.

We had a field of 20 contestants in both categories, shooting two targets with 10 rounds each target.

We used the Lewis style of scoring so our entire club could compete and have a ‘shot’ (wink-wink) at a win. Dan Borchers, a very famous and distinguished former club member (recently moved out of PebbleCreek) implemented this system and we wisely decided to keep it going.

A simple, nutshell version on the differences between shooting Rimfire versus Centerfire: Rimfire is a lesser caliber so the gun doesn’t have as much kick to it. That makes it just a bit easier to get more bullseyes for a higher score. Centerfire has more kick and a little harder to place those shots on center target.

Rimfire

Group One: 1st place: Arty Bartlett with a total score of 187 and 5 X’s, 2nd place: Bob Lukes with a 185 and 4 X’s

Group Two: 1st place: Matthew Thomann with 164 and 1X, 2nd place: Nick Sharp with 163

Group Three: 1st place: Tom Gallob with 136, 2nd place: John Slaughter with 132

Centerfire

Group One: 1st place: Scott Wood with a total score of 176 and 2 X’s, 2nd place: George Bulfon with a 176 tied score but zero X’s (Darn those little X’s!)

Group Two: 1st place: Bob Adkins with 150; 2nd place: Tom Gallob with 145 (I think Tom should take Judy out to lunch!)

Group Three: 1st place: Kirk Harrison with 125, 2nd place: Ed Crass 117 (Ed is a new member so give him a shout out when you can)
