Again this year our PebbleCreek Community Church stepped forward to collect 771 shoe boxes for children around the world, many of whom have never received a gift in their lives. These shoe boxes hold hygiene items such as soap, a washcloth, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb/brush and school supplies because children may not be allowed to go to school if their parents cannot afford school supplies plus a small toy and stuffed animal. A few simple tools—a hammer, screwdriver, level and flashlight may be added to the older boys’ boxes instead of a toy.

A number of us gathered in local homes during the hot summer months to make items for the shoe boxes. All of this is, of course, in support of Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child which collects shoe boxes from participating organizations the third week of November each year and distributes them both to 130 countries around the world and to Native American Indians. We are already looking forward to the things we might make for next year’s shoe boxes.

The PebbleCreek Community Church meets in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday morning. We are a non-denominational church and all are welcome. See our website at www.pebblecreekchurch.org.
