The Shalom Club celebrates with a Purim Festival Extravaganza.
The evening of March 10 began with a Shabbat Service (organized and presented by Alice Neurwirth and Judy Layne) and continued with a festive flair. Our evening had a bit of everything and offered something for everyone!
A Purim Spiel was historically a comic dramatization to convey the saga of the Purim story. Laurie Farquhar and Joan Wendroff wrote and directed the script consisting of dancers, singers and actors. Melissa Kallett, our special guest star, played Haman. Judy and Jerry Layne both superbly played Queen Esther. Jerry Layne was also extraordinary as a ventriloquist.
Joan Grube, our choreographer, led the belly dancers, Sandy Mednick, Martha Berman and Janet Davis, to entice the king.
It is customary of a Purim Holiday to donate to a charity. Emily Grotta coordinated the beautiful Purim Baskets that were raffled off as charity. A “mitzvah” to ADL.
The food was delicious! A Mediterranean Buffet was served which reflected the time of Queen Esther. Members of the Shalom Club made mouth-watering hamantaschen; led by the Hamantaschen Queen Shari Baer.
This festive event took a great deal of planning. The committee did a fantastic job! Thank you to all those involved in making this a successful evening.
Our next celebration is our Passover Seder scheduled for April 11 at 6:00 p.m. at Tuscany Falls Ballroom. The price is $30 for members, $40 for guests and $15 for children.
We meet once a month on the third Sunday of each month in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.
