The Shalom Club celebrates Hanukah

Brenda Hyman

Our annual Hanukah party on December 21 was the best ever. The Eagle’s Nest Ballroom was aglow with decorations and beautiful centerpieces. A carving station buffet dinner along with the traditional latkes (potato pancakes), sufganiyot (doughnut holes) and scrumptious desserts rounded out the meal. Thank you to Janet Davis for donating a beautiful cake and celebrating Lloyd Janow’s 80th birthday! Of course our club began to work off those calories with several hours of dancing. A good time was had by all and we thank all of the committee’s hard work that went into the planning of this annual event. A special thank you to Tanya Miller for heading it up and making the evening so memorable!

In addition, the month of December marks our yearly Tzedakah (Hebrew word meaning justice or righteousness but commonly used to signify charity) gift. Mogen David Adom (Israel’s ambulance, blood services and disaster relief) was the chosen donation recipient. A record amount of money was donated this year for MDA. Thank you to our members for their generosity and to Janet Davis, Sandy Mednick and the Tzedakah Committee for their leadership.

2015 begins with a meeting of the Shalom Club’s past presidents. They will meet, schmooze and discuss the evolution of our club as well as look to the future for the next 20 years. We also will induct our new slate officers at the January 18 meeting in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. Save your appetites for a buffet of lox, bagels, cream cheese and garnishes. (BYOD – Bring your own drink). We will feast, laugh, schmooze and install the new officers. Please join us for this meeting.

Coming up February 6 will be the Celebrate 20/Roaring 20’s gala event. We meet at the speakeasy with drinks, dinner, dancing and a few surprises. The celebration is our twentieth anniversary. Cost is $25 per person (members) and $40 for guests. Sign up on our website www.pcshalomclub.org and choose your entrée. We will have a full house! Sign up early! Payment is due by January 10, 2015.

The PebbleCreek Shalom Club is open to all residents who have an interest in Jewish holidays, events and history. We meet on the third Sunday of each month in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. for dessert followed by the meeting at 7:00 p.m. The dues are $30 per person each year.
