Club members recently heard from a PebbleCreek (PC) Irish American Club Scholarship recipient—her story follows.
Shaelyn Wooten was a 2023 recipient of an PC Irish American Scholarship award. She wanted to reach out to thank us and tell us what our generosity has helped her achieve. During her senior year at Millennium high school she had aspirations to attend ASU to pursue a degree in live music, specifically producing and engineering concerts. Now in 2025, she is starting her junior year at ASU and has, in her words, “already achieved so much more than I could have imagined.”
Having found the perfect degree program at ASU that provides real-life, hands-on experience in her chosen field, Shaelyn is a live-sound intern with ASU’s popular music program, as well as a stagehand with Upstage Productions.
One can hear and feel her excitement as Shaelyn describes her experiences “I have gotten to work on some pretty cool projects, such as Tempe’s Reggae Rise Up festival this past spring, as well as Alice Cooper’s 2025 Coopstock where I got to work up close with rockstars like Alice Cooper, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and Robin Zander of Cheap Trick. I’ve also had opportunities to run sound at several local music venues in downtown Phoenix such as Crescent Ballroom and the Valley Bar.”
Don’t her words put a smile on your face? Her plan, positive mindset, and focused action are certainly moving her toward full accomplishment of her high school aspirations. And she credits the Irish American Club for our assistance in helping get her there.
Shaelyn’s words of thanks—“I want to thank you for this amazing opportunity that you’ve granted me and I will always remember the generosity that you’ve shown me. Thanks to this scholarship, I was kickstarted to begin college debt-free and begin saving for future semesters. Two years in and I continue to attend college with no loans and am on track to continue this trend. I am confident in my prospects post-college.” Did your smile just get bigger?
Thank you, members, for making the club’s commitment to help our community thrive and grow. Your participation in the annual golf tournament (now in the 16th year) and individual donations throughout the years have made dreams come true for Shaelyn and countless other students through our scholarship program.
