Schlepping, Meshugenah, and Mensch are words in the January lecture

Brenda Hyman

January 3 – 6:30 p.m. – Capri Room

Mark your calendars for this wonderful lecture for our adult education group, CHAI High. Did you ever wonder about the meaningfulness of Yiddish in our lives today? Did you ever want to know some Yiddish words that your grandparents used? Did you want to understand some of those hilarious jokes that everyone laughed at but you didn’t understand?

Join our High Holidays Club for this entertaining and informative lecture on Yiddish! Is it the forgotten language? Don’t we wish we understood it? How can we learn some of it now? Rabbi Laibel Blotner of Chabad in Mesa will reintroduce us to Yiddish and amuse us with anecdotes, expressions and history about our beloved Yiddish.

The Capri Room holds only 40 people. If you want to join, please email: [email protected]. You will receive a confirming reply and your name will be added to the list. We fill up quickly. A wait list will begin when the room has 40 sign-ups. Please let me know if you have to cancel. Many are waiting to fill the spaces. Note: lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

January 13 marks the second of our Shabbat dinners at the clubhouse. There will be a full dinner (cost to be announced) and a no-charge wine and soft drink bar. Our April dinner was so successful this year that we opted to have another one. This will be a fun evening with entertainment and good food. Watch the eGroup for further details and sign-ups.

Our February 7 lecture will feature our own Jewish Judge here in Goodyear, Michael Simonson. We look forward to hearing what he has to say about our city and its history. Look for further details to follow.
