Samaritan Purse Doctor to Speak at Next Men’s Christian Fellowship

Curt Zimmerman

The next meeting of the Men’s Christian Fellowship of PebbleCreek (MCFPC) will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 a.m. beginning with a hot buffet breakfast in the Tuscany Falls Chianti Room. The MCFPC is a group of more than 150 Christian men that meets the first Wednesday of each month through April, and features a wide range of interesting guest speakers. Dr. Allan Sawyer will be our next special guest and will provide highlights of his 25-plus years with Samaritan’s Purse.

In 2004, Dr. Sawyer went on his first medical mission trip with Samaritan’s Purse to Kudjip Nazarene Hospital in Papua New Guinea. He has now served with Samaritan’s Purse on more than 25 domestic and international missions. His primary mission is to serve, relieve, and teach at hospitals in developing countries. Dr. Sawyer estimates he has delivered more than 11,000 babies in his lifetime. After 24 years in private ob/gyn practice in Glendale, Dr. Sawyer sold his practice and began serving exclusively with Samaritan’s Purse, spending approximately six months of each year in other countries.

Dr. Sawyer’s favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:27, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” Likewise, his favorite quote is by John Wesley, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

Dr. Allan Sawyer has been a resident of Maricopa County since 1992 when he continued his ob/gyn residency training at what was then Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center (now Banner University Medical Center—Phoenix). He and his wife, Teresa, have four adult children, and by the time we meet in December he and Teresa will have had their first grandchild.

The November Fellowship meeting had one of the largest turnouts in some time to hear special guest Col. Ron Catton (Ret.) describe his experiences as an integral part of Vietnam combat missions and three seasons with the Thunderbirds airshows.

All men of PebbleCreek are welcome and invited. The Tuscany Falls Chianti Room is located between the Ballroom and the library. For more information, contact President Igor Shpudejko at [email protected] or 602-384-6496.
