On Oct. 23, Board Members and Committee Chairs gathered at the home of the PebbleCreek (PC) Democratic Club President, Vicki Barber, to meet with U.S. Senatorial Candidate, Ruben Gallego. Representative Gallego came to update attendees on election news, take questions, and thank all who have worked hard to get him and all Democratic candidates elected in November.

Rep. Gallego explained how his background as a Marine veteran, the son of a single mother, and his experience in the House of Representatives will benefit him as a Senator for Arizona. He answered questions about the border and immigration issues and reminded us about the importance of voting and the significance in particular of this election. He spoke of the bipartisan concern about border matters and how more personnel are needed. He also addressed the difficulties of becoming a citizen and converting a visa to a green card, the latter now taking an average 7 years. He explained that the delay is due to an insufficient number of people to process applications, a fact that was made worse by the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.

It was generous of Representative Gallego to spare time to talk with Democratic Club members, particularly so close to the election when he is traveling up and down and across the state to speak to voters. He has discussed with us before that he does not only visit the major cities but also attaches great importance to visiting the 20 reservations in the state, something that no other candidate has done.

Videotaping was done for a local news channel and many photos and short clips for various social media and other media outlets. Vicki Barber, our host, and board members provided delicious pastries and coffee. We are very grateful to Representative Gallego and to all who have worked so hard on this election.

On Sept. 26, the club held a cul-de-sac party hosted by members Ross and Judy Hart. Over 60 members and guests enjoyed sitting outside in the cooler late afternoon and evening temperatures, great potluck food, and entertainment by four members of the Pebblecreek Ukulele Club.

The December meeting will feature Rick Savage and Dave Deal. Both are PebbleCreek residents and members of Transition Advisory Group (TAG) for the upcoming HOA transition. They will give us an informal update on the transition, including the timing, details of the change of ownership from Robson Corp to our HOA, and how to become involved via the Leadership Training Group.

The December meeting of the Democratic Club will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Eagles Nest Ballroom. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The meeting is open and all are welcome.
