On Sunday, Feb. 20, 140 hearty golfers participated in the 5th annual Goodyear PebbleCreek Rotary Foundation’s Golf Tournament and Ball Drop. Prior to teeing off at 8:30 a.m., we held the exciting Ball Drop. We are very appreciative of the Goodyear Fire Department for bringing their ladder truck and dropping 500 numbered pre-sold golf balls onto the putting green. We were thrilled this year to have three balls go into the designated hole, so three lucky winners received $1,000 each. Monroe Cabine, a resident of PebbleCreek, was one of the lucky winners. This tournament continues to grow in recognition by players and sponsors because of the charitable good works by the Rotary Club that make a difference in the lives of our local community.

“We are genuinely grateful for the outpouring of support from our tournament sponsors and, of course, the number of golfers who participated,” said Jim Frey, Rotary Club Foundation Tournament Chair. “This is our primary fundraising event, which generates funds to re-invest in the community through a variety of charitable donations to local nonprofits, six $1,000 scholarships, youth leadership programs, and local service projects.” Frey added, “This commitment to give back is embodied in the ‘Service Above Self’ motto that anchors Rotary’s mission.”

The Rotary Club Foundation truly appreciates the generosity of area businesses and community patrons in supporting the tournament. This year’s event sponsor was Sun Health Foundation-Rancho La Loma. Major sponsors included: Avondale Toyota, Robson Reserve, Sparrow Partners/Mera Goodyear, Johnson Wealth Management, Argent Solar, Freedom Audiology, Amazon-Goodyear, Estrella Mountain Community College, Window World of Phoenix, KW Realty—Oakie Arnot, Broker, Ford Pest Control, PMG Labels LP, Kelley’s Insurance Services, Jones Ford Buckeye, plus our many hole sponsors. We had a record 44 sponsors this year! These area businesses should be thanked, and more importantly, deserve our business. They believe in helping our community.

This golf tournament is the largest fundraiser for the Goodyear PebbleCreek Rotary Foundation and is the main contributor of funds allowing us to partner with a number of West Valley nonprofits and organizations. For the past three years, a total of $142,712 has been distributed and the $35,000 made from this event will certainly allow the Goodyear PebbleCreek Rotary Foundation to distribute more money to more nonprofits serving our community.

Our club is dedicated to “Service Above Self,” and we partner with 1.2 million other Rotarians around the world who are committed to truth, fairness, goodwill, friendship, and enriching communities. We meet every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse. We invite you to join us. We are neighbors, community leaders, and local citizens uniting for the common good. Visitors are always welcome. For further information, call 623-698-0618 or email [email protected].
