The Rotary Club of Goodyear PebbleCreek was busy spreading the spirit of Christmas giving in the Goodyear community during the recent holiday season.
Twenty-five Rotarians from the club volunteered to ring bells at the Salvation Army Red Kettles outside retail stores. “The Salvation Army has a wonderful tradition of generating contributions during the holiday season to enrich the lives of the community,” said Joan Smith, Rotary Club president. “We partner with the Salvation Army every Christmas and this year we raised $1,600 during the shifts when our Rotary Club members were out ringing bells and greeting holiday shoppers.” The proceeds from the Salvation Army Red Kettle collections are used to bring some holiday happiness to our less fortunate neighbors in need.
Also, in the spirit of holiday giving, Rotary Club volunteers packaged and delivered 33 food boxes in our community, including books chosen specifically for each child in the family. “We had 20 club members turn out to distribute these food supplies to families who would appreciate the groceries during the holidays,” noted Smith. “The Avondale Elementary School District identifies families in need and our club members value the meaningful experience of personally connecting with neighbors during the holidays.”
In addition, during the month of December, Rotarians collected two pick-up-truck loads of canned food for donation to the New Life Center.
The Rotary Club of Goodyear PebbleCreek meets every Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. in the PebbleCreek Tuscany Falls Clubhouse. Dedicated to “service above self,” the club welcomes visitors interested in exploring the club and also snowbird Rotarians who could affiliate with the club during their winter residency.
