On Jan. 10, the PebbleCreek (PC) Roadrunner team proudly hosted fellow Roadrunner teams from across the valley for a home match on the Eagles Nest course. From the moment competitors arrived, they were met with warm welcomes and smooth organization, thanks to team captains Margaret Dlouhy and Susan Gavin, along with dedicated team members and PebbleCreek golf course personnel who were on hand to ensure a great day for all.

The Arizona skies showed off in classic fashion, delivering a beautiful, sunny backdrop that set the tone for an outstanding day of golf. Adding to the experience, visiting teams commented on the excellent condition of the Eagles Nest course and expressed appreciation for the hospitality provided by Ronnie Decker and the entire team of rangers and Pro Shop staff. That gratitude didn’t end when the scorecards were turned in, as the compliments carried forward into the next round a week later.

On the competitive side, the home team gave fans plenty to cheer about. The PebbleCreek Roadrunners claimed the win for the home match, a strong showing that propelled the team into second place on the cumulative leaderboard. A rewarding result, earned through focus, teamwork, and steady play.

Of course, no Roadrunner event would be complete without a few memorable extras. A highlight for all teams was the inclusion of homemade cookies in the goodie bags. Darleen Lockhart, a dear friend to many on the PC Roadrunner team, baked her famous Cowboy Cookies, a scrumptious treat that quickly became the talk of the day. One PC player even used her cookie as motivation, quietly promising herself that if she chipped in, the cookie would be her reward. Sure enough, the chip dropped, and the victory was sweet in more ways than one.

Perhaps the most meaningful takeaway of the day was the camaraderie on display. The spirit of friendship, sportsmanship, and team pride was evident throughout the event and was especially gratifying for the captains to witness. It was a day filled with reconnecting with friends, enjoying friendly competition, and celebrating a well-earned home-team win.
