PebbleCreek resident Doug McFarland has recently published Chief Justice: A Supreme Court Insider’s Novel. It gives an inside, intimate and accurate view of life inside the Supreme Court of the United States (such as lunch in the Justices’ private dining room, the police officer who catches the robes flung in his direction as the Justices come off the bench, the Clerk’s Bible in continuous use for oaths since 1806) in the context of a fast-paced mystery. The book is available in the PebbleCreek creative arts gift shop and on major bookseller websites. More information is available at www.dougmcfarlandbooks.com.
McFarland is a retired law professor from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He and wife Mary bought a house here in 2009. While on leave from Hamline and while living in PebbleCreek, he also taught at Arizona Summit School of Law in downtown Phoenix and at UNLV (commuting each week from Goodyear to Las Vegas). A few years earlier he was Counselor to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger at the Supreme Court in Washington, which is his source of insider information about life at the court.
