Rescue of the Month: Pet Companions Club Recent Rescue—Barney

Mary O’Neill

Barney was part of a litter of puppies born to a dog named Daisy that Jim Ellison rescued a few years ago. Daisy still lives in PebbleCreek, as do some of her other puppies. Barney was adopted as a puppy in PebbleCreek, and he was doted on by his parents.

Barney’s owners unfortunately passed away. His mom died in 2024, and his dad passed in November 2025. The Pet Companions Club received a call from Patrol asking us to come and collect Barney from the house. Once we had Barney, we were able to put him into foster care with his pet sitters, which was perfect since he was familiar with them, their house, and their dog.

We took Barney to his veterinarian and brought him current on his vaccines and got him a badly needed dental cleaning. He feels like a brand-new dog after his dental work! Poor teeth can actually cause quite a bit of pain for your pet.

Barney was adopted into a new home where he has two dog siblings just his size. He has fit in and adjusted to his new life wonderfully! We are so happy to see him happy in his new life after he lost his parents.

Just like with people, poor dental health can lead to an infection in the blood and shorten the life of your pet. Dental work for dogs and cats can be quite expensive, so this is another excellent example of why your tax-deductible donations to our club are vital. We need those donations to pay the veterinarian bills for our rescued cats and dogs. You can send us a donation through Zelle at pcpetcompanions@gmail.com, or send us a check by mail to The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek, PO Box 6106, Goodyear, AZ, 85338-0619.
